New Signing

John O'Sullivan has re-signed on a 3 year contract - bit of a surprise but welcome back Johnno

Re: New Signing

I was going to post, when I heard he had left his last club, but thought better of it.........

I am putting myself up to be shot down - for a change - but, do not see this as a good signing!

Not good enough last time he was with us, so fail to how he will be now, hope I am very, very wrong - let us see in 2024!

Didn't see that coming. Typical Coley signing. Happy to give the lad another chance but wouldn't have been top of my list.

Re: New Signing

Have to agree with the previous 3 posts but he,s older now and maybe matured a bit never been a doubt there is a good footballer inside him but I used to think he thought he was better than he was, but welcome aboard let's hope you prove any doubters wrong.

Totally underwhelmed.
I thought we’d gone beyond this.

No Ian Dumbavin signing tomorrow as number 1 keeper Toby will have his work cut out to shift him.

Would not joke, I doubt very much that O'Sullivan will the last......

We have to trust our management as we know they like to o sign familiar players. John O’Sullivan signing on at this stage in his career is almost a copy of when Sean Mac came back to us. If John O’S does as well as Sean S has done we will be very happy. Also IMHO, a players form for other people event clubs is now t the only factor when signing by them up. Our club still have a tight salary budget that shouldn’t be confused with the spending recently on club ground infrastructure etc. I believe John O’S will be great signing because there is still untapped potential in him that our management will get out of him!

Re: New Signing

like all signings its a wait and see. if we had signed a player of a similar age and experiance who had not played for stanley before from another div.2 promoted club i think the reaction would have been different. as choirboy said he could turn out as a new sean.

Or a Gary Roberts. Everyone saying budget tight ..... but give him a three year deal.

As a club we have been crying out for longer deals on players so has not to be ripped off every summer when someone has had a blinder, we will still be paying some of the lower wages in this league but it's a rise to most we sign on. Think unless you have a mega rich owner some attendance based financially dependant clubs after the last fanless 12+ months will be cutting their respective cloths.

Not sure if I,m right but sure that when he signed in January it was a short term deal until the end of the season, either way he left by mutual consent to join the coaching staff at Ipswich we might even have received a bit of compensation.

It's O'Sullivan that's got 3 years mate.

If you as a manager or club really want a player especially as the club he,s at in this case Morecambe who would probably be offering similar money but maybe less years you go for it, also if he is a raging success and clubs want him as with any player you make a profit especially on the level of money we will be paying. Every signing as a element of risk even the top managers make bad signings, you could break our wage structure and pay 3 times has much on 1 year deals but successful or not there wouldn't be the prospect of a profit.

Re: New Signing

It's also got to be balanced against the deals the existing players have.
It shouldn't be the case that you leave to come back on a better deal.
If it comes off great but I've got to be honest and say the player hasn't shown anything to convince he's a league one player who's going to take us to the next level.

That's why I mentioned wages structure and breaking it which won't happen, I was surprised at the signing but John obviously wants him and like I said previously he will have matured now his football brain probably hopefully improved no doubt about his talent.

could say the same about the non league players we have signed during the years including sean and windass. none of them were players we expected to sign and coley has been vindicated with these signings.

Yeah, I have to sgree with you 28. Not my choice of signing. Maybe if we can keep him fit and off the treatment table. Doubt he's as durable as Sean. Still we won't find out until next season.

Correct monkey hanger Kayden Jackson was going nowhere till John and Jimmy got a hold of him, Seamus Conneelly didn't cut it at Sheffield United but John saw something in him at Sligo and he,s now club captain let's get behind the lad and hope he,s a success, I could go on and on about players that have improved at Stanley moved on and been either indifferent or a success.

He,s never left both times here he was on loan, there,s a few ex players I'd like back but most of those will already be on better deals now, rumours circulating are that Conner Ripley in his last year of his deal at Preston is looking for game time wouldn't be bad as a loan option .

Carve it up however you want but he played thirty odd times over two spells so either he refused to come back or we didn't bother asking him to.
All about opinions but personally I cant see him cutting it at top half league one.

Your right it's about opinions I was myself a bit surprised but Jonn and his team,s opinion is obviously different that's what counts and what they get paid for, he,s a fully fledged Stanley member now and he needs to be supported and hopefully he,ll prove any doubters wrong.

Agree Andy and as a player, he will get my support :)

I do not think he will be the player he was on that day away at Plymouth and the subsequent weeks!!

I hope I am really, really wrong though ;)

The first loan spell when he came along with Sean Maguire he was good second time not as effective, same as Janoi Doniecian in his 2 seasons with us he was a stand out player, came back on loan into a side that was low on confidence and playing poorly he seemed not the same player, not to say he couldn't come back into the current much better squad and be terrific again.

one thing about the signings is that they are either very good or at worst they give us a comedy interlude when they get a game. very few are actually boring.

thing is he usually gets things right but when he does not stanley are terrible. the only thing he could improve on is his timings of substitutions where other managers seem to use them far better than we do. know he has been quoted as not liking them but surely he should be learning by now.

IF Coley was better with his substitutions, he would be leading teams out at Anfield, not The Crown!! :)
