toby and mumbongo to start plus another couple to make there first team debuts. after last saturdays problems at oldham i cannot see them playing a really weakened side to get a possible hammering. the locals are getting really restless there.

Line up:-
Savin.
Perritt. Sykes. Rodgers. Sherring. Nolan.
Butcher. Morgan. Pritchard.
Bishop. Mumbango.
Subs:-
Trafford. McConville. Leigh. Scully. Carson. Proctor. Charles.

Like the look of this line up.

Only 10 players and they do not have a goalie listed : Same on I follow 10 players 7 subs but playing a 3-4-2-1 system which is only 10 maybe they will concede the game to us.

But they do have a Jordan Clarke - did a double take on that one :D

SSN have just said there's been a break in play due to Oldham fans throwing tennis balls & flares on the pitch in protest against their owners - come on lads, protest all you want but keep it off the pitch, how is doing that helping your players, it's not them you're mad at

Re: Oldham carabao cup away thread

The bloke who has replaced Dan Jewell is absolutely awful more interested in his own voice and chatting to co- commentator Liam Coyle can't make his mind up who is the keeper for Oldham one minute it's Clarke then it's Adams. No flow off game action although it sounds a poor game, after being unwell and not making a game yet I nearly decided to go at the last minute I am glad I didn't.

Of all the penalty takers, I'd have bet my house on Dion & Matt scoring - well done to Toby for scoring 1 & saving 1 (although that should've been 2) - not to be, we'll concentrate on the league :)

Re: Oldham carabao cup away thread

Savin saved from Luamba at 4-4, but ref ordered a retake....which was scored....and Butcher missed....concentrate on the league. Perhaps just as well with our small but quality squad. Our strikers seem to be short of confidence...perhaps Charles international break will give hime some confidence for when he returns......

Our strikers aren't delivering at the moment not even from the spot.

EXACTLY can someone tell me WHY the 2 strikers that played NEVER took a penalty??? its ridiculous to me a strikers job is to win the game.not avoid it. not good enough.

To be honest I thought the same thing especially Bishop because his record with penalties is quite good, why oh why aren't we beating a team who have lost every game in the league are in turmoil off the field and sit in 92nd place in the EFL. Ok there are always upset,s in the cup but did we really not want a chance of a money spinning tie in round 3. Should imagine Coleman should be boiling at the performance and hopefully doesn't in his post match interview slate the retaken penalty too much.

Just seen the interview very scathing of the 5 players who came in wether he meant Savin not sure but Perritt, Nolan, Mumbongo and Sherring didn't do anything to earn the shirt. Very unusual to mention fitness so early and players moaning about certain training methods didn't cut corners said they aren't good enough and will be bringing in players he thinks are better. Not brilliant to hear if you're one of those he's talking about will it motivate them or leave them disheartened.

Not sure Andyd. I haven't heard Coley give a post match interview like that since the Conference days. He really isn't happy with the players. ......as to the affect on the players.....its Coley's way or the Highway.....we'll just have to see what happens......

Mumbongo didn't receive one decent pass or through ball to enable him to play to his strengths using his pace.

The game looked like disjointed memorial ground stuff.

The ground is a health hazard and there are a lot of idiot fans. Walking down steps in near pitch dark is an accident waiting to happen.

Coley explained why Colby didn't take a penalty in his interview, apparently was struggling with his hamstring & could hardly walk by then

That's Colby out for Saturday.

andyd 25-08-2021 08:09

Re: Oldham carabao cup away thread

The double edged sword of using substitutes, 54 minutes double change bringing on Charles and Leigh, three minutes later a forced change Rodgers struggling brings on Perritt. So he has done what people on here including me has used his subs, only to end up with Nolan struggling for the last quarter and saying Colby could barely walk. Your dammed if you do and dammed if you don't.

Didn’t see the game but the only good thing to come out of that result was Coley’s response.

so the 3 players he mentioned to me were not fit enough to play surely? so why were they playing, seems we will lose them on sat thats a fair possibility.

might be miles off the mark but i do think over the last few seasons some players attitudes in cup and trophy games is below what we get in league games. seems well if we win its fine but not totally bothered if we do not. if you cannot outscore a complete basket case club in normal time there must be something wrong either in the players ability or their will to win.

Well Coleman is always on about a great set of lads squad all on the same page and would run through a wall for you, seemingly a real U-turn in last night,s post match interview we all know sometimes straight after a game managers say things emotional but I didn't get that last night it sounds to me there is not as harmonious a squad as we are led to believe. Maybe if you know your only getting a game in a cup competition you sulk if that's the case we are in trouble because strength in depth should mean that exactly, you can't in the real world pick the same 11 for 46 games be great if you could.

monkey hanger 25-08-2021 10:05

Re: Oldham carabao cup away thread

there has been many players in the past who apart from coming on as sub 5 minutes before the end that we have only seen in league cup and trophy games. the problem is that they know they will not be picked to start the next league game. thats the impression i get and would be nice to see the total stats on this since coley came back.

We were outplayed in midfield last night by a 17 year old kid (Harry Vaughn) who must have weighed about 8 stone wet through and just over 5' in height. Dribbled past our lads with ease.
