Atherton Laburnum Rovers

Yes, that's what the LR stands for, and I'm all in favour of interesting names for football clubs at every level (with a name like Stanley, we should all be !)

Great names such as "Atherton Laburnum Rovers" remind me of when I was a boy and the FA Amateur Cup was fought out at Wembley between such greats as (and I think this was 1954, but I'll probably be corrected) "Bishop Auckland" and "Corinthian Casuals".

Auckland are still going, of course ; what happened to the Casuals ?

I don't want to stray too far from the essential "Stanley" nature of the forum, but I hope that these wonderfully evocative names can be brought back to the public's attention and never be forgotten.

Just a whimsical thought from an old man.

"Four years later Corinthians inflicted Manchester United's record ever defeat on them to the tune of 11-3"

Sweeeet

"and a year later Blackburn Rovers were beaten 1-0"
