I'm hoping along with you Cashy..........but I reckon we'll be lucky to get anything with our leaky defence.........Are you watching on iFollow like me?

Can't believe O'Sullivan is preferred to start before Tommy Leigh

Re: Wigan V Stanley the thread.

Interesting line up.......I reckon Rogers has fallen out f favour with Coley. Didn't he get blamed for one of the goals against Gillngham. Rogers said he lost the flight of the ball in the sun, but Coley blamed him for poor defending. Rogers is only on the bench because we are short of defenders tonight.......O'sullivan get's the nod behind Bishop...let'shope it works....

Perhaps he's looking at all the options before the end of the season? Maybe he's unsure about whether O'Sully is in his plans for next year. Don't know only guessing......And no Pell on the bench, must still have a knock from Saturday.

Silly free kick to give away 1 down.

Re: Wigan V Stanley the thread.

Good free kick from Wigan 1 nil from a central position 26 yards out.

Here we go again...been the better side for the first 38 minutes and then we go behind.

But we never looked like scoring go in front and they are different games problem all season especially away has been putting chances away.

Three decent chances for Wigan = two goals.
Three chances for Stanley = no goals.
If only footie was like gymnastics and we could get points for artistic expression.

Two moments of quality from Wigan. Quality we don't seem to have. Next goal crucial to the outcome of this game.

Just looking at the stats......their keeper hasn't had to make save. Tell's us what we already know.

Wonder if there will be any blame laid at the ref

Don't blame Savin...........Coley should have brought a second keeper in in January when Trafford recalled.

Our strategy on relying on the U23's this season was a big change and came with risks. Butshould have had two senior keepers....one on loan...which was how the season started.

As if the score line isn’t bad enough this commentator on iFollow is useless.

Playing with one experienced striker on his own up front doesn't help either.

Probably because ex-Stanley players never make good commentators......

Was Trafford recalled because he was spending his time sitting on the bench? Seems to be good enough for the Trotters.

Only City know why they recalled him. I heard the Bolton manager asked City to loan him to Bolton in January.

Haven't looked at the stats for games Trafford played in the first half of the season but got the impression he played similar number of games to Savin. The point I was making was that if we had two senior keepers now.......Coley could drop Toby at the weekend following his blunder tonight....but likelyhood is he will still play on Saturday at Fleetwood.

One things for certain Kiwi..............no one can blame you for last nights result!..........as you didn't start the thread......:)

Lord Stiffupperlip 06-04-2022 10:22

Re: Wigan V Stanley the thread.

Analysis of Stanley's 14 goal efforts last night confirms Baron Bishop (Gerrit?) contribution to our attack was a paltry 'off target' 1.
Before anyone jumps in with the excuse that he performs a similar role to our late King Billy, holding up play, laying on chances for others etc., of the other 13 attempts, his assists numbered '0'.
Comparisons with Billy Kee are not only misguided but insulting. Yes, Billy did all of the above, but Kee was also an incomparable one-man goal machine.
JC's oft trumpeted opinion that Bishop has all the attributes worthy of the Championship look more like a ludicrous fantasy with every game played.

no trafford replacement and no charles one either that was anywhere near his standard. this season is really over but the summer transfers will be very interesting indeed.

Don't know current contract scenario especially among the under 23,s Matt Butcher is out of contract I think and can see him returning south if the Portsmouth interest is real. Couple of experienced players in McConville and Conneely who will probably be still around, but seriously need more defenders and strikers plus a experienced keeper far too many midfielders in an unbalanced squad IMHO.

Lord Stiffupperlip 07-04-2022 09:44

Re: Wigan V Stanley the thread.

Agree with most of the above, but when you look back to the early part of the season when we were riding high, we had a powerful & creative midfield in Butcher, Pritchard & Pell, all of whom have been missing for long periods since.
They not only provided the ammunition for Bishop & Charles but had the intelligence to stop opponents attacks.
It would be a shame to lose any of them next season.
We're still creating opportunities but need 2 proven strikers & an experienced keeper to improve matters.

My main worry is that coley might not be able to find these diamonds he has unearthed in the past. Just hope i,ll be wrong.
