Russell Payne - who did we sign him from?
 

Does anyone remember who we signed Russell Payne from? All the Non League club directory books I have suggest it was Ashton United. I guess it would make sense as there was a large exodus of players from Ashton Utd when John Coleman moved across but the excellent Ashton United History Database website (https://jgslelc.wixsite.com/project1...united-players) has no record of him.
Can anyone provide a full record of his playing career? I know he started at Skelmersdale United before going to Liverpool and Crewe but I can't find out who he played for between leaving Crewe and playing for us.
Any help would be gratefully received.

We signed Russell from Congleton Town around the same time as Mark Ceraolo & Brett Baxter arrived from Ashton, can't help with Brett's date of birth but Russell's is 8th July 1970.
He was one of my favourite players & still have his no. 7 shirt from our Unibond Premier league winning season

Russ is one of my all time favourite Stanley players. Free running with great pace and a deceptive swerve of the body in both directions. Remember him scoring four goals against Eastwood. I think he might have come from Congleton Town, but not sure. Russ was part of our great squad which won the Unibond Premier League title! Such a great talent!:jimbo::jimbo::theband:

cheers but we know that is incomplete! he didn't go from Crewe to Acrrington!
