Does anyone have any information as to who might be signed? Especially strikers?

If we sign anyone it will be in our wage structure so can't see it being Cole Stockton who a lot of our fans seem to want at the Wham.

We can afford anybody until the end of the season Andy, as we have plenty from the cups ;)

Would not want that clown from Utd, but would take Stockton tomorrow :)

Re: Transfer Window

I would think we will see Lucas in the cups certainly and he may well continue into the Bristol Rovers Game.

Having watched Seamus's interview post Derby, very honest and intimating that there are no easy fixes to our poor results of late. I believe the current starting 11 and bench are simply dictated by the only fit players at the club. Delfonso, Sisay and Hardie were by their absences very poor signings and are costing us some of our playing budget. The same goes for several others who I can't name.....as it makes my blood boil just thinking about them.......As always we have to trust the Manager AND Chairman to somehow find the answer. I.e......THEY'VE GOT TO DO THEIR JOB.

Wickham had two very productive loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday but the last was quite some time ago.

The last 'fit' striker we signed from non-league turned out to be an expensive long term 'crock'.
Blimey, he hasn't even arrived yet & the negativity has already started.
He's only on loan, what's the risk?
He just may prove to be a goal machine - let optimism reign!

On the ther hand, he scored 19 goals for Brentford's B team in the previous season in around 26 matches, and was their players' Player of the Year.

Search for Pressley on here: https://www.brentfordfc.com/en/news/...-202021-642529

Try Googling 'wimbledon pressley goal' and select 'videos'. There's plenty to see.

You are right of course Lord S........New Year and New Hope! ......Let the optimism begin!.......I just wish the club would announce it if its a done deal. .....A couple of Cup games will give him some match practice and give him a chance to get used to the team, before the bread and butter of the League.

Thanks MikeA. From these videos we can see that he is a big lad with an eye for goal. Can he get into those goal scoring positions in a more competitive and physical league?……..Let’s hope so! Good luck to him.:mosher:

What I've seen of him reminds me of Andy McCulloch, Brentford's centre forward in the later 70s, but he played with Steve Phillips who alone got 32 goals in one season.

Aaron Pressley comes across as a sound lad, I just hope he isn’t left isolated running around on his own up front and winning headers that go to no-one in red, like Tommy Leigh’s been having to do.
We have to play two out and out attackers closely working with and off each other, just like Morecambe recently decided to do to great effect.

I think the gap between us and other 'strugglers' in league 1, is really evident when you look at the signings made by other clubs. For example, Fleetwood signed 2 forwards yesterday who are proven at this level. I doubt we'd be anywhere near those kind of players.

Yes you're right, it makes John Coleman's record all the more remarkable.

Well let’s see how is to be used. Another sub?

Don’t think Pressley and Stockton would have been a match made in heaven, and that probably was a non starter anyway. Can name 91 League sides they would rather sell, too. I have never seen Nathan but his write-up appears to make him a good choice for Pressley’s running mate, which would free Sean Whalley for a more creative role.

But will it happen? Not sure. Coley’s never been good at the “Kill your darlings” game. Will it be Pressley or Nathan rather than and? Hope not.

Re: Transfer Window

Tend to agree, Gregor.
Let’s hope this new lad can show us what he’s got and deliver balls into the box and the net.
It’s hard to imagine how Stanley can reverse their recent league form unless they field at least two out and out attackers.
For what seems like months we’ve had Tommy Leigh laying off headers to the opposition because there‘s rarely another player in red close to him.
It would seem a waste of Pressley’s talents to have him play the same lone striker role.

butler-oyedeji & pressley as strike partners

Lord Stiffupperlip 01-02-2023 13:06

Re: Transfer Window

Successful teams are organised to defend as a team & attack as a team.
Leeds simply overran our defence in numbers to score 2 of their 3 goals.
Our reliance in the past of hoping one solitary striker will score against an organised defence has proved a tactical disaster.
The sooner we get back to fast wing play with at least 2 strikers in the box the better.

accybeme 01-02-2023 15:15

Re: Transfer Window

in league 1 the majority of teams have 6' 2" plus defenders, butler-oyedeji is a young 5' 10" striker that would be bullied out of the game if playing on his own up front, the option to play him as a strike partner with 6' 4" pressley would seem to be ideal

Crown Grounder 01-02-2023 17:22

Re: Transfer Window

All will be revealed on Saturday. I can't see young Butler-Oyedeji playing a full game on Saturday but I can never understand why Coley doesn't start with say Pressley and Butler-O up front together even if one or both of them have to come off after an hour. We all know goals change games and if they did score......it would really have an impact on the game. Can't see him starting but I hope he gets longer than 10 to 15 minutes on the pitch........fingers crossed...

Not surprised really. Probably at the stage in his career where he needs to test himself against experienced players and he should get plenty of that with Altrincham. Best of luck to the lad.
Jack Nolan is another candidate who seems to be ignored yet every time ive seen him play for the 23s he's stood out a mile as a good footballer who could have done a good job for us if given a good chance in the first team rather than cameo appearances.

Maybe it’s something to do with the fact that the lad has just turned 22, has played 62 minutes in seven games, but has never started a single game. This despite the club seemingly having a defensive crisis all season.
I always thought he did OK when I saw him but he obviously feels he has no future with Stanley.
Good luck to him.
