The 22nd

:)
Your chance to visit God's own Country.

Should you have a full day free make the most of your trip to Tamworth to take in a good day out. We are a very friendly lot down here.

Take these tips for a pretty damn perfect day in my Town

Park up in town, best bet is to follow signs for railway station then head up albert rd to car parks in Marmion St, Spinning School lane.
After a hearty breakfast at Roasters (George St) or Poachers (Little Church Lane) you can pack the designated driver / missus off to the shops (ankerside shopping centre, George St Market) while you can indulge in beers.
Try The Albert Hotel (Albert Rd) The Globe Hotel (Lower Gungate) Sir Robert Peel (Lower Gungate) and Bolebridge (Wetherspoons-Bolebridge St) for good ales all are within ten mins walking time of each other on the east side of the town centre (towards the Railway Station).
We also have Yates's and Chicagos for the lagerboys amongst you.
Anyone who didn't do the breakfast try Steve's chippy (Lower Gungate)

Suitably refreshed try getting the view in from the top of the castle before taking a pleasant stroll through the castle grounds to the Snowdome (it takes 10-15 mins from the castle / Market st-george St). Watch out for geese !
You should then get a chance to relax and watch a bit of skiing, (Laugh at people falling over a lot) before crossing over the road to the football ground

After the game I suggest celebrating / drowning your sorrows in any of the afore mentioned pubs or try a stop off in the cute village of Hopwas (A51) on the north side of town (decent food at both red lion or tame otter also) a simple left turn just outside the village will then put you back on the A5 toward home

Hope all that little lot is of help, we have a very good tourist info centre in Market St, by the Sir Robert Peel Statue / Old town hall if you need any more advice

Anyone with the whole weekend free and wishing to stay over (you could try skiing or visit Drayton Manor or something) try The Albert Hotel, The Tweeddale, The Tamworth Arms or The Peel Hotel Aldergate as probably the best value for money

Cheers have a good jouney down, hope you at least leave us with one point

PS please let me know if you do give the above a try and have any comments

Certainly a change in attitude from our visit last season when we were only allowed in 1 club for a drink & we had to pay a deposit to be allowed in there!!

When we played Tamworth last season, we were told by your stewards when we arrived that we would not be allowed in in pubs in the town centre but there was a working mens club a short walk away where we would be able to get a drink before the game, when we got there they did allow us to go in but as I said only after we paid a £50 returnable deposit. Apparently you had played Hereford a couple of weeks previously & they had trashed some of the pubs in town & they weren't risking anything happening again. Glad to hear things have changed now.

 aaah the delights of Kettlebrook working mens club, I trust you got your £50 back without fuss? Were they still serving that Federation rubbish? at about £1.20 a pint?

:( Our first ever game in the Conference was Hereford at home on a barmy summer afternoon, they brought all the fruitcakes who caused a few problems at a few other places (most noteably Burton) before they all got caught and sent to one of Lizzies hotels. After that game the shutters went up for six months everywhere, even home fans couldn't get in to wetherspoons or yates's.

:) You shouldn't have any problem this year, but do note all the pubs i mention are quite small (even our wetherspoons ) so you may have difficulty if you get 40 of you all turning up at once, not least in getting the poor barmaids to get you served.

The latest thing around here is all the pubs are linked by radio so if any trouble does start anywhere you can bet the whole lot will be shut within two minutes and you will get a full Staffs Police escort, cctv riot van and all.

Hope you have a good journey down, will probably see you in one of the pubs before game
regards
