Wow! That was a real ‘Team Performance’ for a hard fought victory today! The return of Captain Seamus made a big difference providing stability and structure in our midfield, boy was he tired near the end of the match.:mosher:
The match was end to end early on but the Stanley goal on thirteen minutes was a ‘Superb Team Goal’! A sharp accurate pass from Seamus in the middle to Ross Longelo who skilfully controlled the ball and sent in a swift direct cross for Pressley to sweep onto and thrash the ball into the net…..The old ‘One, Two, Three’ epitomized! After the goal Stanley continued mainly with the upper hand as Longelo was shredding the Shrews defenders apart! We fully deserved the half time lead!:mosher:
Shrewsbury made two changes at half time and it took Stanley ten minutes or more to adjust to their new shape. Our opponents had more of the ball in the second half but ‘The Jensen Interceptor’ made a series of great saves.:theband:
Good to see Clarke getting useful match time too.
Lots of good performances from Stanley players but Ross Longelo deservedly won the MOM award closely followed by Jensen IMHO.:theband:
The final whistle interaction between our players and supporters was brilliant!:wave8:
Hopefully, a turning point in our season.:mosher:
ON STANLEY ON.:wave8::signbeer::drink:
KEEP THE FAITH.

Excellent summary, Choirboy.
And a great attacking performance from the squad in the first half, and sterling defence in the second.
Don’t know if Rosaire Longelo has any more space in his house for another well deserved MotM bottle of champagne but, if not, he could give it to Lucas Jensen for a cracking display.
Well done, lads. Take a deep breath, and get ready for Wednesday.

Also great to see Mat Guy* at the game today all the way from Southampton.
He should come more often!

We got yellows today for nothing, yet Sean was hacked down twice and nothing was given..........

We’ve seen Mr.Backhouse before and he, like most L1 refs, seems consistently inconsistent at times although he did give both teams three yellow cards.
However, given the rough-house treatment he received throughout the match, giving Longelo a card was a bit rich.

Which some on here wouldn't be bothered about, especially if he has to miss any games

The things that stood out for me today were:
1. Jensen is our best keeper
2. Fernandes and Sangara make terrific centre-backs along side top player Rogers. I like how quick they are, great defensive headers and comfortable on the ball playing out from the back.
3. Pressley just needs service with crosses and he'll score more goals.
4. We miss Conneely's calm head in midfield when he doesn't play, Seb Quirk is a great find, quick with good ball control and aggressive when he needs to be.
5. Ros when fit should be the first name on the Team Sheet.
6. Glad to see Mitch back today not yet up to speed....but he'll improve with game time.
7. Leigh plays much better as an attacking midfielder than he ever does upfront, also gives us another target when we play long from the back.

Just to go back to my comment after the match yesterday, Seamus came back and settled everything down and not one player was rushed or frenzied :)

There was a five minute spell at the start of the second half, when it was corner after corner from Shrews and a couple of silly free kicks given away towards the end of the game, apart from that I was never of the opinion that we would concede :)

I hope we can turn Dan Martin into the next Seamus, if not we need to find one :)

We win the next two League games and we stay up - simples :)

:) :)

Re: The Shrewsbury thread

Good list, Crown Grounder.
One other notable was the through pass from Conneely for Longelo to run onto and cross for Pressley to knock in. Great, simple football.
All this season it’s been so frustrating to see both Stanley’s wide players running backward to the half way line to receive the ball then, facing the wrong way, having to try and turn and get past at least two ‘set’ defenders. Or, as too often happens, giving the ball back to the defender.

Conneely would have been the last I’d have expected to make such a pass but he should be especially applauded for that effort and seems to have come back from injury as a better player.
Of course it requires the wide man to ‘show’ he’s on the same attacking wavelength, wanting to get behind the defenders, and it’s no wonder Longelo won his third Man of the Match award.
