Morecambe

What a mess our friends on the coast are in - there were rumours earlier that neither players or staff have been paid & that some players were refusing to play tomorrow. There is now a statement on Morecambe's website confirming this & saying they will endeavour to put a team out at Swindon (possibly academy players?)
The consensus on their forum suggests they are heading for administration - we might have our troubles but it seems they are in a much worse state

Very strong rumours that we already have, should never have let him go!

Re: Morecambe

There's an interview in the Lancaster Times where they ask Ged about his future. He says they've got one player contracted for next season and an embargo on signing, that they could put out a youth team for next season but asks who will get sacked in they get thumped for the first few matches. He then says you've got to ask yourself what the best option is for a person in his position, adding that he's loved his time at Morecambe. I certainly don't think he's staying there.

Re: Morecambe

I feel sorry for the players and fans and Ged at Morecambe, it's a terrible way to end the season. Even after having a poor season at the Wham I am still looking forward to August and the start of the new season, unfortunately I don't think that will be the feeling for many at Morecambe.

This is what happens when a club has a parasite owning them. Be thankful that Accrington are owned by a fan.

I have a feeling that if we survive , Ged will be at Accrington and we will be managed by either Derek Adams again or Coley !

Hope it all comes right for Morecambe. They seem like a good bunch of buggers from where I sit.

Which league do you expect to be surviving in?.....And what happens to all the points earned if Morecambe go bust?

I think the points stay where they are. Any points deduction will be from next season if the club goes into admin.

Hoping for a new owner and EFL2 even with a minus 10 point start.

I believe the wages, etc were due at the end of the month so, technically, there may not have been an infringement.
Perhaps it was the players’ expectation, maybe because it usually happened, that wages would paid on or before the weekend that caused the latest kerfuffle.

According to one of their fans on Shrimps Voices, wages are due on 28th of each month - in March 2023, they weren't paid until 31st which led to the fines & eventual 3 point deduction. They might only have been a day late this time but it depends on how the Efl view it

Like us, they are a small Club, therefore they will get punished......

It's possible that the compensation paid to bring Ged back went towards Morecambe's wages

Don't get me wrong, I hope things do work out & they get back on their feet but they are definitely not out of the woods yet by a long way

It is great news. The first time was when Bradford offered him a huge pay-rise that we couldn't match. The other time was when the club sale fell through and he had the chance to go back to "his club" , Ross County.

It sounds today that the club sale will go through in the next 10 to 14 days and Derek has been given his budget and starts tomorrow recruiting.

Derek is the only Morecambe manager I have ever heard with a vision for the club , he thinks we can make the Championship (like Burton and Yeovil did) and wants a new stand down the open terrace.

The club think the Embargo will be lifted shortly as well.

Hope all goes well for Morecambe going forward. IMOP Adams is a great
manager at our level and only jumps ship when he's not getting a fair deal. Hopefully all will settle down for the new season ahead.

Embargo lifted yesterday and 15 players signed (is that a record for 1 day !) Also a delegation of potential new owners from the Sub-Continent were being shown round the stadium so maybe a bit of light at the end of the tunnel without it being a train coming !
