19 to viginti
SEASON 19....
And so it shall come to pass, that the Mighty Stanley will be embarking on their 19th Football League expedition shortly.... not many of us thought that would happen - truly ;) Some good work done in securing the likes of Connor and Alex, plus keeping hold of the experienced Seamus and Shaun, but - at the same time - losing some experience in Sean and goals in Jack and Tommy were not so great - some will feel..... Nevertheless, we kickoff our campaign away at Doncaster and at home to Harrogate - an away tie at Tranmere in the League Cup sandwiched in between :) One thing we are going to have to get used to is early kick off times and Monday night games Etc. courtesy of $ky........ :( here to stay I fear.... We have the boys from Boston up front, also the return of an old face in defence, plus some other young, keen lads from Non-League.... As always I imagine it will be a struggle, but it is nothing we have not faced - and triumphed over - before :) Where will we finish???? Who will shine??? How bumpy will the ride be???? :) :) :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
First up a tough away trip to Donny.
A good team, who had a great finish to last season and benefited from additions such as Billy Sharp  Great to see a lad making his debut and scoring - I like the look of Tyler Walton :) ONLY 17 more wins and we will be safe :) :) :) :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
First point on the board, with the 3-3 draw at home to Harrogate :)
Poor first half, with some shocking defending. Little better second half, though poor defending cost us the win :( Tyler F***ing Walton is the find of the season :) 16 wins, plus a draw to go :) :) :) :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Bad result in Wales, though the statistics - apart from the main one - showed otherwise.....
Plenty of chances created and plenty of promise, just the end product required :) Lots of new faces, will need time to gel :) Still 16 wins required, let us hope it is just 15 on Sunday morning :) :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Still 16 wins, though a point nearer ;)
I think that a draw was fair - yes Shaun could have won it (twice) a the end, but a point each was fair. Shaun, Seamus and Walton were the pick of the bunch - were need a new Seamus soon - Kelly had his best game and the lads from Blackburn and Burnley looked good for the few minutes they were on the pitch :) Next up Notts. County who have not lost - we have not won - let us hope that changes ;) :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Strange trip away to Notts. County, some sickness in the camp, meaning a few newish faces :)
In the cold light of day, losing 2-0 to a team as big as them is not going to define us :) Players like McGoldrick - even approaching 37  - are well above this level ;) At the start of the season, I was worried about Kelly, but he kept us in the game and the score respectable - well done :) It goes without saying that I need us to win the next two home games more that Stanley do :D Still 16 wins required, though it will soon be 14 ;) :) :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Taken me this long, as I was trying to think of some positives.....
Poo(r) game, between two not good teams - how have The Alex won 3 on the spin  After 30 minutes, could not see anything other than 0-0 (which would have been fair) Have to say that I did not see the goal fully - but after watching on the TV - although the defending was poor, it was a scrappy goal, which on another day does not get scored...... Seamus and Shaun apart, some poor/bad performances... STILL ONLY 16 WINS REQUIRED :) Starting with a home win against Vale on Saturday :) :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
I started with 17 wins to go, we have not won any and it is now 16
Anyway, 16 wins still required and in all honesty, it should be 15.... :) Very good performance, which would have resulted in a win, if we were still not searching for our first - make sense?? :) The change in system worked well I thought and when Tyler is back, it will be even better (must find a way of getting Dan Martin into the team!!) Batty and Love were my stand outs, but as my good friend choirboy said to me when asked "every Stanley player were M.O.M.!" Players like Stockley are great at this level and will cause most teams problems. It felt like a loss when the whistle blew, but it is another point, which could be vital come May :) Wombles (maybe) next, we will win games playing like that :) Come on Stanley :) :) :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Not the greatest of games between - another - two poor sides...
Regardless, we took the lead through a very good goal from Elvis :) Minimum expectation after that is a point - not to be.. :( Their first goal was about luck and they got a barrow load of it, also the lad stuck to his task :) The winner was a flying header from way back when and on another day, when things are going for you is chalked off :( New keeper did well I thought :) We will win one day and then it will be down to 15, but at the moment......... 16 more wins required :) UP THE REDS |
Re: 19 to viginti
The result was key ;) :)
Average display in the main, lovely free kick from Morecambe was the best thing football wise :) But, thanks to a cool head from Elvis - twice - we secured the win, which we deserved...just about :) The Clayton End was bouncing and this contributed to the result :) Special mention for young Aljofree, grew into the game, contributed to the second goal and spoke well after the game - Utd have let their best defender out on loan ;) JUST 15 MORE WINS REQUIRED :) RED AND WHITE ARMY!!! :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Hi Val...I normally agree with you on most things. But surely the best thing about the game was the attacking move and finish by Costello for the second goal....I thought our keeper could have done better saving the free kick and our wall wasn't solid either nor did they jump to stop the ball.....
|
Re: 19 to viginti
I don't think many keepers could of got to that free kick.

Our second was good, but I think their free kick was better - all about opinions, but we both agree that the win was most important :) :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Without a doubt the win was most important.
|
Re: 19 to viginti
Well they are like double deckers are they not?? :)
Another win - League leaders away from home, from a goal down, about as good as it gets :) Just my opinion, but Ben Woods (Dan and Alex also) is not getting enough game time??? Good goal and assist :) Elvis on the score sheet again, is he what was needed???? Young Aljofree is also a great find :) ONLY 14 more wins required - piece of cake at this rate :D COME ON YOU REDS |
Re: 19 to viginti
Just becoming boring and repetitive
Promotion pushing Barrow turned up for the early kick off and same old same old :) Yet another win - three on the bounce now :D Good solid performance and well deserved 3 points :) Connor O'Brien was stand out for me, but several very good performances :) Just the 13 wins left - 13 unlucky for some, watch out plastic Dons!!! UP THE STANLEY :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Still just the 13 wins required ;)
Bad day at the office in 'plasticville' where we were the architects of our own downfall :( A slight bump in the road to safety :( We go again!! RED AND WHITE ARMY!! :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
A battling defensive performance against a good Walsall team, which saw us earn another point towards safety :)
Another clean sheet to boot :) Tough week, against two strong teams, both with ambitions to be playing higher next season :) Still the 13 wins required, but a point nearer :) ON STANLEY ON |
Re: 19 to viginti
An away trip to another top team and another brilliant win - and clean sheet to boot :)
Goals from Stanleys' 'prolific' No39, the 'rampaging' Zach Awe(some) and Tyler f***ing Walton, saw us come away from Chesterfield with all 3 points :) The 'Woods twins' seem to be helping Stanley in the right direction - long may it continue. A dozen more like that and we will be safe :) "WE CONQUERED ALL OF NON-LEAGUE......." :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Pulsating game, which Stanley should have won three times over :)
Both teams played their part, though Stanley were by far and away the better team and created chance after chance after chance :) Should have won the game in the first 20 minutes, but not to be unfortunately :( Not going to mention the man in black, I know my good friend choirboy will articulate much better than I, I just hope he does not use some of the words he used yesterday :D :) Just another point, so still 12 more wins required, but - in the words of Brett Ormerod on Radio Lancs. "If they carry on playing like that, they will win more than they lose!" Pleased for young Sonny getting on the score sheet - like him as a player :) Farrend was MoM, but it could have been any Stanley player :) Brilliant game of football, one of the best I have seen in ages :) RED ARMY |
Re: 19 to viginti
Away to Wombles, was the second game in week we have drawn 2-2, but should have had all 3 points :( :)
Great strike from Nelson for the opener and a lovely pass from Henderson for Elvis to double the lead - job done!! IF the keeper had have collected the ball in the 89th, it would have been....... Nevertheless it was a point I would have been glad of at kick off and 1 more than we would have collected when we should have played :) Another point closer :) 11 more wins will do the job :) KEEP THE FAITH :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Nothing to say about the shambolic trip to Grimsby..... :(
Bad day at the office with a 5-2 reverse. 11 wins to go - starting at the weekend :) ON STANLEY ON |
Re: 19 to viginti
A poor game of football, saw us just about what we deserved - zero points :(
Weather was a contributor, but we were not good, Bromley were horrible and they won out. Cannot think of anybody worthy of a mention - two poor games in a week.. :( An away trip to Fleetwood next - need to get back to winning ways :) 11 wins to go :) COME ON STANLEY!!! |
Re: 19 to viginti
Another point gained away at Fleetwood :)
On another day, Tyler Walton would have scored a couple - Elvis had good chances also :) Fleetwood had chances too, so maybe a fair result?? 11 wins to go, with a busy Festive Season to come :) UP THE REDS :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
The lack of a match thread/post match analysis says it all to me :(
Tyler and Elvis unlucky again - Tyler is as lucky as Gary O'Neil almost..... When they can afford players like Cole Stockton and Ben Woodburn, it will always be hard. Busy Christmas period ahead, games against teams around us, so do not lose, win, win, win :) 11 more wins to go :) KEEP THE FAITH |
Re: 19 to viginti
An away trip to Carlisle saw us lose again..... 2-1.
Not the greatest of games - as you would expect from 2 of the bottom teams... Enough about that :( 11 wins to go :) ON STANLEY ON |
Re: 19 to viginti
Home to Grimsby next and a game which saw Stanley take all 3 points :)
A good Grimsby team took the lead twice, but thanks to some good luck in being awarded a penalty and more good luck with their keeper letting the ball go through him, we got the win :) Just the 10 more to go :) RED ARMY |

Been very ill for a couple of weeks C.G., so I am on catch up ;)
Somewhere inside Anfield :) :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
An away trip to Colchester, saw a Shaun Whalley brace and a clean sheet :)
Another 3 points for Stanley :) 100% win rate for 2025 :) A mere 9 wins to go ;) ON STANLEY ON |
Re: 19 to viginti
Down to earth with a bang.....
A 3-0 defeat at home to a very good Notts. County side :( Still just 9 wins required :) :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
And back up again with a big bang :)
Tough away trip to Crewe, saw a battling, defensive and gritty performance :) 78 years old Shaun Whalley with the only goal of the game - and what a goal!!! Very, very good, workman like performance and a well deserved 1-0 win :) 8 wins will do the trick :) STANLEY BOYS, STANLEY BOYS.......... |
Re: 19 to viginti
Home to Cheltenham midweek and another point gained :)
Gutsy performance against a very well organised and 'in your face' team. Still 8 wins to go, but a point nearer :) RED AND WHITE ARMY :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Bad day at the office in Burslem...........
An old cliche, but sometimes it is harder to play against ten... 2-1 defeat against a promotion pushing Vale :( We move onto The Wombles next. Still the 8 wins needed. ON STANLEY ON :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Another tough home game - Wombles - saw us get another well earned point :)
League 2 Player of the month was awarded Man of the match, could have gone to Rawson, Walton, or O'Brien to be honest :) Back to back home goalless draws - not something we have been accustomed to over recent years :) We have now hit the 30 point barrier, so 7 more wins will do it :) Two tough away games this week - Bradford and Morecambe :) COME ON YOU REDS :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Did not think it would be easy going to Bradford - 7 home wins on the bounce
I hope that 'resting' players (has it come to this in League 2???) gets the desired results. Not a great deal in the game, but I think the result fair :o The newish young lads at the back did OK, but we lack that killer instinct up front... Conor Grant looked good for the time he was on the pitch :) We move onto the next one :) The first of the 7 more wins required comes soon ;) WE'RE THE PRIDE OF LANCASHIRE :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
An away trip to Morecambe next - a must not lose game.....
Good solid performance in the first half - a good 'derby' game :) A lapse of concentration in the second, saw Morecambe take the lead and then double it, as we tried to get back level..... See the above post about 'resting' players :( Home game next - though this will be as tough. 7 wins to go :) FIRST TEAM TO PLAY IN RED...... :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
A very tough home game against high flying Doncaster Rovers next.
They scored early and could have been out of sight at half time, but we rallied in the second half and got level through Captain Fantastic - Seamus :) Killer was going back behind so early, through an unlucky own goal :( Last 10/15 minutes we gave it a good go - they went down to ten near the end - but we could not grab another.... It was never going to be easy and on the balance of play Donny deserved their 2-1 win. Still just need 7 wins, next two away are MUST NOT LOSE!!!! RED ARMY :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
First of two 'must not lose' away trips, saw us travel to Tranmere :)
The beginning of something I hoped after I saw the team/formation.... Great to see Grant starting and even better four at the back :) Stanley started well and finished well and to be honest, they played well in between :) This might be a flash in the pan, but I hope we carry on with the back four for the rest of the season :) Shaun Whalley - 79 next birthday - with the only goal of the game, to give us a vital win :) We are getting ever nearer the finishing line - 6 more wins to go :) ON STANLEY ON :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Second of the 'must not lose' games did not go to plan :(
Not the best of games, saw us lose 2-1 to Harrogate - Josh Woods scoring for us :) We still need 6 more wins, at home to out of form MK Dons this midweek next :) Put this behind us and move on :) WE CONQUERED ALL OF NON-LEAGUE....................... :) |
Re: 19 to viginti
Another midweek game and another clean sheet victory :)
Home to Managerless MK Dons saw a 2-0 victory - despite the back 3..... - goals from Walton and O'Brien-Whitmarsh(what has the world come to???) Good solid home performance and great result :) 5 wins to go, we are there............(almost) 10 MEN WENT TO WAR, WENT TO WAR WITH BARROW........... |
Re: 19 to viginti
Away to Barrow, we lost 2-0, nothing else to say.... :(
We did not play well, we lost both halves 1-0. 5 wins to go. RED AND WHITE ARMY |
Re: 19 to viginti
Home to Newport saw Stanley run riot, with a 5-0 victory
Great team performance, with 2 goals from Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh and Kelsey Mooney (really) plus 1 from the roofer Tyler :) Everything came together for once and it was great for the loyal home fans :) The end is getting nearer ;) 4 wins to go. :) THEY SAID OUR DAYS WERE NUMBERED AND THEY NEARLY SHUT THE DOORS.............. |
Re: 19 to viginti
Another point closer to safety :)
Not a good game at all - Coley summed is up, when he liken it to a Rugby match. Their goal/free kick routine was brilliant. The delivery from Ben for our goal likewise. 4 Wins will do it :) ON STANLEY ON |
Re: 19 to viginti
Bore draw away at Swindon.
Another point to the total and another clean sheet :) RED ARMY |
Re: 19 to viginti
Third draw in a row - another 0-0 - at home to Bradford.
A very good game, a bit of rough and tumble, but an enjoyable game :) Just 3 more wins to get to where we need to be :) WE CONQUERED ALL OF NON-LEAGUE........... |
Re: 19 to viginti
Midweek game at home to Fleetwood next, not much to say........
Thrashed 4-1 and a poor performance :( As with most things in life, the last little bit is the hardest to achieve.... 3 wins to go :) ON STANLEY ON |
Re: 19 to viginti
Another poor performance at Bromley - 4-0 thrashing...
3 wins to go. Nothing else to say :( RED AND WHITE ARMY |

Re: 19 to viginti
Home to Tranmere and a three goal lead - easy peasy, all done and dusted.... "£$"$%"$££
Just about managed a point and credit must go to Tranmere who just kept on playing and never panicked!!!! :) Early strike from Ben Woods, one from the roofer and another from Josh Woods - my man of the match, he ran himself into the ground. I am not having ago at the Management, but it was obvious from the hour mark that Josh - at a minimum - was out on his feet :( Changes should have come much earlier - that is all I will say on the matter :) Another point closer to safety and a great game of football!!!! :) ON STANLEY ON |
Re: 19 to viginti
Away to moneybags next and I expected the worst - after Tranmere especially :(
Great performance by the guys and goals by the 83 years of age Shaun Whalley and a stupendous free kick from Ben Woods - I love the way that Ben refers to him as "Whalley!!" :) Another away win - tell me again how having 8 times more home fans helps you win at home???? Just 2 more wins to go :) STANLEY 'TIL I DIE, I'M STANLEY 'TIL I DIE...................... |
Re: 19 to viginti
Home to Carlisle saw us take another point when 3 seemed easier...
Not the worst game, but not the best. Lovely delivery for the Aljofree goal :) 1-1 final score, we are almost there :) We may not get the wins, but we should get the points :) SOMEONE SCORED A GOAL - PAUL MULLIN, SOMEONE SCORED A GOAL............. |
Re: 19 to viginti
Have we made it yet Val?

Re: 19 to viginti
Maybe we will get the wins??????
Away to Walsall - tougher on paper than grass - saw another lovely goal from Ben Woods :) Solid performance and 50 points achieved giving us safety :) So, on the 2nd of August - 6937 days down the line - Stanley will begin their 20th Football League campaign.... we will have reached viginti :) WE ARE STAYING UP, SAY WE ARE STAYING UP...................... |
Re: 19 to viginti
Val....are you going to continue this post for Viginti unus?
|
Re: 19 to viginti
Next one is triginta C.G. or viginti quinque possibly :)
