I do not have the slightest idea how that team lines up

Kelly is in goal, apart from that???

Boston boys are not even on the bench, but our Captain is......???

Bummer. I think they both wanted to play so their families could be there.

Re: Versus Notts County

Two down now... poor defending I'm afraid ?.
Missed opportunities in the first half proving costly ?.
Shaun Whalley running hard again with little or no support ?
Is it all a case of inexperience and football immaturity ?.
Kelly is keeping the Reds in it with some excellent saves !.

ON STANLEY... ON !

Re: Versus Notts County

David McGoldrick with both goals. I know it's early days in the season but i fear for us unless we turn results around PDQ. Once into the realms of seriously struggling at the wrong end of the table it becomes ever so difficult to get out.

Did we win any friendlies?

Re: Versus Notts County

Judging by the match highlights, we were lucky to get away with 2-0.
If it wasn't for Kelly it could have been 4 or 5-0
We could be playing the Shrimps in non-league next season unless the management can perform a miracle

Wow...how time flies...still, I'm sticking with my prediction that we won't start putting a run together till January, but of course I'm hoping I'm way out and it starts sooner.

Re: Versus Notts County

Wasn’t at the game yesterday but there’s an impression I have had for some time of the way Stanley defend, which others may or may not agree with.
Compared with many of our opponents it seems to me that Stanley, when defending in their own half, are too far away from attacking players.
The defence sometimes seem to be just watching the ball and not seeing where the other opposition players are. Are they being asked to ‘defend’ a part of the pitch, and not stick close to a particular player or players?
In the second half of the last two games I’ve seen, both Colchester and Stockport smothered Stanley’s attackers. They were on them almost before they received the ball. Stockport closed Stanley down in its own half!
In comparison, Stanley often appear to give opposing attackers the space they need to receive and control a pass before approaching them.
Is it just me, is it a tactic, or not really happening?
Yours, puzzled.

Stanley stand off when the oppo has the ball at the edge of the box, happened twice yesterday, more so the first goal, and v Colchester. After the Colchester incident you would think they would have been given instructions not to do it again, but it seems like a bizarre tactic.

Re: Versus Notts County

Alas, this is nothing new.
Here's part of my post from the game against Bristol Rovers on the 12th Jan back in 2019:
'The obvious instruction for the whole team to retreat faster than the speed of light into our own half as soon as any attack breaks down, leaving the opposition unmolested to build attacks from their own half.
Every player can make errors, but you only need look at our present dire goal deficit (the worst in the league) to realise that there is something far more fundamental to blame.
Is it fair to blame individual players for every goal we concede, or does the blame lie in the way our team are instructed to defend?
I've always believed that attack is the best form of defence and this should start in the opponents half when they have the ball.
It's too late to start defending when they're already in your box.
Until Stanley learn to press & harry opponents as soon as they've lost possession, the faster our 'goals against' tally will mount.
Ultimately, the end result will only guarantee more misery.

Thanks for the reminder Div3North!
Surely fine example of the exception that proves the rule.
Perhaps outweighed by the other 6 'friendly' losses - 2 by non-league teams :(
