Which of the out of contract players should be on the retained list and which not?
The club's payroll is top heavy with underscoring strikers but I suspect little can be done about it.

Ash Hunter has tweeted to the effect that his future lies elsewhere.

Which players should be on the retained list
Kelly - not good enough.
Isherwood - NGE Love - has the experience we need. JRB - not seen him play in 2 years. Conor Grant - looks OK in the glimpses seen. Rawson - OK after slow start. Coyle - has calmed down this season. Whalley - how long can he carry on? Ben Woods - very good - make him Captain. Mooney - NGE. Henderson - needs more time on the pitch. Knowles - NGE. Quirk - injured too often. Ward - done OK since signing. Pickles - NGE. Matthews - looks good. Caton - NGE. Popoola - not seen enough of. Brown - NGE. Martin - good player, where is he?? Walton - best find of the season. Smith - never seen. Hall - NGE. Trickett - NGE. Seamus - how long can he carry on? O'Brien - very good, where is he?? Woods - not the most gifted, but give 100% every time. Hunter - NGE. On listening to the Fans' Forum, I think some of my questions were answered?!?!?!?!? |

Of the loan players, I would have Nora back, if Rovers wanted shut of him - at the right price :)

Thank you Mrs Mad...never watched Last of The Summer Wine, but have heard good things about it. Still reckon Ash Hunter should've been given ago up front in the middle.

Liam Coyle - 10 yellows in 34 appearances. Calmed down ? |

Based on cards/appearances this season Donald Love sits atop the naughty step on 0.34 cards / game. Next is Ben Woods(0.3), Walton (0.29), O’Brien & Coyle (0.27), Ward & Awe (0.24). https://www.thepunterspage.com/player-cards-stats/ |

Thanks for the information Exile :)
In his role, he will get booked, but it is how...... Cheers for the link also. :) |
Re: Which of the out of contract players should be on the retained list and which not
We are going off topic but, 3rd in the cards list is not good, neither is joint 1st for yellows, 1 red is a big step forwards... Now back onto who stays, or otherwise :)

Re: Which of the out of contract players should be on the retained list and which not
I think our centre back trio of Matthews, Rawson and Ward is quite adequate for this division, and I would be happy to keep all three. Matthews seems to be an excellent signing. Thought we would miss Awe more than we did. Only miss his occasional running with the ball, useful when the midfield is so stationary.
Less impressed with the midfield. I am no fan of Coyle, and no longer of Seamus either. With five at the back and two holding midfielders you need more running, particularly running with the ball than we get from the present lot. Someone like one of my favourites, Matt Butcher, or a poor man’s version of him. Whalley runs of course, but he is not a true forward. I still think Coleman got us relegated by believing that he was. But he is excellent at doing what he was allowed to do on occasion, supporting and interchanging with two strikers. I think our best version was when he was playing behind and around Walton and Elvis. But Shaun cannot do all the running. We need to get something from the holding midfielders, too. I would keep Walton and Whalley, and remain indifferent to most of the others. Not to Connor O’Brien of course, but he has to leave for his own sake. Wish him well as long as he stays away from Salford or Forest Green. |
