Red Herring

in the Observer today, I know he's never the happiest of supporters but today he's positively suicidal!

Does anyone know where he lives I need someone to go round & check he's okay!:)

Seriously, should the fans view not be from somebody that can try & recruit fans with his column not put them off coming. Stanley is always a good laugh regardless of result so why all the doom & gloom............................

Re: Red Herring

I have to agree that Red Herring is one unhappy fish.I am all for free speech and everyone is entitled to their own opinions but to have given up on the season and say as much in the local rag is beyond the pale!
It's not gonna have the crowds flocking down to the IES is it?
Let someone a bit more enthusiastic and optimistic have a bash!
Red Herring=flat fish!!!

Re: Red Herring

Oh Well ! The lads will just have to get into the Play-Offs in front of crowds of less than 1,000.

I haven't read it, but I suspect I know the berk involved.

Re: Red Herring

I've been reading the Red Herring column with interest all season.
Most weeks I haven't agreed with what he has said and thought the
guy is a complete prat BUT this week I think he was spot on.

If you were one of the unfortunate people to be at Tamworth you will
know exactly what I mean. Very poor performance, Never really looked like
scoring and we looked nervy at the back.

Sorry to say but after the last four or five performances my hopes of the
play offs have gone completely (I hope I'm wrong)

Re: Red Herring

It's not Red Herring that will stop the crowds flocking to watch Stanley, it's the performances by the team. Only the players can prove him wrong let's hope they do. Personally I think we have missed our chance this season, we should have been well clear of the chasing pack by now but our silly results have lost us the chance. Next season I think we will do what Barnet are doing now and win the league by a mile.

Re: Red Herring

I agree that it's results & performances that persuade people to come to matches but this person has been trying his best all season to put people off coming to Stanley & some people do believe whatever they read in the press, I've stopped reading his (or her) drivel cos it just winds me up & I can't believe that whoever writes it can be a Stanley supporter.

KIPAX 28-01-2005 09:41

Re: Red Herring

I haven't given up on the season even if some of you have... I don't believe the club have given up either even if red herring writes in the Observer that they have.. How some of you can condone telling people that the club has given up is beyond me :(

6th in the league and only 4 pts off second place.
In two cup comps
15 league games left and 45 points to play for.

If you people want to give up on the season now then fair enough.. But I think the bad run will end at some point and we are in a great position to get in the playoffs if the bad run ends soon enough...

red herring tells you the club have given up on the season and now your in here saying you think its lost... red herring has a lot to answer for in my opinion..

Willie Miller 28-01-2005 09:50

Re: Red Herring

If Red Herring had have finished his column with "still 45 points to play for - I urge all Stanleyites to come in force for the Sacrboro game" then I would of approved..................

Re: Red Herring

Yea but he never says anything like that does he? It's about time the Observer got someone more positive to write this column I think.

Tin Monkey 28-01-2005 10:12

Re: Red Herring

I haven't really read the Observer since it went from being published on a Saturday, to being published on a Friday. Looks like i haven't missed anything. :D

KIPAX 28-01-2005 10:20

Re: Red Herring

Officialy published on Fridays but you can buy on thursdays late aftrenoon onwards

The coverage of Accrington Stanley is brilliant.. the reports and pictures (hehe) are spot on... Its the fans corner where they let a fan give his view that lets it down. Its a golden oppertunity to give a positive message to other fans.. Instead the writer goes for the negative as much as possible.. This week he puts forward that the club have given up on the season........ sigh.. bet the club arn't too happy wiht that :(

JEFF 28-01-2005 10:31

Re: Red Herring

So far this season comparison with last season

Last season

Played 27
Won 12
Drawn 8
Lost 7
Goals for 45
Goals against 34
Goal diff +11
Points 44

At home - won 10, drawn 2, lost 3, for 31, against 18
Away - won 2, drawn 6, lost 4, for 14, against 16

This season
Played 27
Won 12
Drawn 5
Lost 10
Goals for 45
Goals against 37
Goal diff +8
Points 41

At home - won 7, drawn 2, lost 4, for 23, against 14
Away - won 5, drawn 3, lost 6, for 22, against 23

Only three points of a difference so far. At this time last year we had played 15 games at home and 12 games away. This season we have played 13 games at home and 14 games away.

Re: Red Herring

I would agree wholeheartedly with those who want to see Red Herring ousted and I wonder what kind of a fan gets pleasure out of constantly slagging Stanley off.
I do know, however, that the Observer were desperately looking for someone to do the column and nobody wanted to commit. If anyone is seriously interested why don't you have a word with Dany? I'm sure she would do something if there was a real alternative.

Wynonie Harris 28-01-2005 11:59

Re: Red Herring

Have you never thought of doing it, Alice? Your previous posting proves that you have all the qualities needed to provide a perceptive, balanced, well-written column.

Re: Red Herring

A very robust response from Eric to Red Herring's fishy rubbish can be seen on the official site. Sock it to 'em, Eric, we're right behind you!

Re: Red Herring

I've just read Red Herring's column in the Observer, and I'm not best pleased about it. This guy's glass is definitely of the half-empty variety.

The editor of the Observer should place red Herring on suicide watch; play some Leonard Cohen music, give him some razor blades and tell him to get on with it!

KIPAX 28-01-2005 17:37

Re: Red Herring

I like Erics response.. made the same points as me... sounds just like me.. bless :)

Steven 29-01-2005 11:29

Re: Red Herring

I definatly think we should get him kicked out

i am writing my email to the observer to get him booted now and will do so every week until he get kicked out

We have a fans view now if thewy cant find another fan to write it change it to a clubs view and have rob or coley or eric to write it

Is there anybody else joing me in this protest to the observer

Tin Monkey 29-01-2005 14:50

Re: Red Herring

The club's views are printed every week aren't they? Why have another column from the club's perspective?

Maybe you don't like this Red Herring person, but a fans' eye view is still preferrable to your alternative suggestion.

Steven 29-01-2005 16:34

Re: Red Herring

Ok then but surley somebody else can write this artcle

Re: Red Herring

With regard to all your comments about the offending article by Red Herring in last weeks Observer.

Football hardly ever gives the fans completely what they want, the Conference is not an easy league to get out of, I believe that the herring is out of order in slamming the powers that be and accusing them of giving up.

Fish are not supposed to have brains, if that is so, Herring proves that theory.

As far as being red is concerned, well, I leave that for you all to decide.
