The club can't possibly anticipate every action of every person associated with it (and the case hasn't even been heard yet, never mind proved). What's more Stanley have taken swift action by suspending the person involved. Surely, only the most blinkered and prejudiced could regard the club in a bad light over this?

agree entirely also i would think someone with the title of moderator(thats a joke)would not put it on the net until the guy is proved guilty.whoever heard of the phrase innocent until proved guilty?

Mick 16-02-2005 11:47

Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

ER Cashman did i say anything about being guilty ...its news people on accyweb like the news good , bad or indifferant
as for putting it on the net,the telegragh will have it on there site shortly
so i cant see the problem .
and as for being a moderator i do my best just like the rest of us moderators
so you can like it or lump it

slinky 16-02-2005 11:51

You do a fine job mick, you were right to put it on the site, like what was said before the club can only do soooo much to make sure these things don't happen. I am sure they did'nt hand him the job while saying '' never mind no-one will know mate'' NO because they did'nt know either.

Cashman, you're a clown.

Do you really think that everyone on this site is currently resident in Accy/Hyndburn? Many of us are exiles and pop on to this site, for among other reasons, to find out the news around Accy and at Stanley. Mick has copied the front and second page of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph. That newspaper's own website will publish exactly the same story sometime later this afternoon, so Mick has simply placed this information in the public domain hours in advance of the Telegraph posting.

That story refers simply to the fact that an individual has been charged by the police on a number of offences. Nowhere is there any inference as to guilt. It may be the case that charges are subsequently dropped, or if not, then we can only await the outcome of the trail.

This is an open society and as such we are entitled to see and read the facts as they stand. There is no lynch mob on here, there is no presumption of guilt, there is nothing other than the story as reported in the local press.

Next time, think before you post.

Tho really as the law would state he's innocent till proven guilty, tho i can see why the club suspended him its their reputation online n cant afford to lose gate money with light of this, even tho he's a mascot man in teddy padding he represents the club in some fashion n mainly to entertain troops of kiddies n as parents we are naturally protective.

Surely to goodness what is important is football and ASFC beating Barnet on Saturday, this is only news about one person, The club is bigger than anyone, what they have done is absoloutly correct, what happens out of hours is no one elses business.

I believe that the people who sit in courts will provide the outcome. So lets get behind what we are all really here for, Accrington Stanley, John Coleman and the players. Not a silly mascot.

you know that the police have had this information since last november!!! perhaps maybe the club should have been informed a little sooner. if hes innocent then whats it matter...but if he is guilty (and im not saying he is) shouldnt the club have been told sooner???

Innocent or guilty - no-one yet knows but shouldn't he have been cleared by CRB or police check before being encouraged to interact with children? If he has then the club cannot be blamed for any of this. if not then their only crime is that they were too trusting.
As Shotgun has said in previous post that the suit belongs to him then perhaps it is time for a change. Maybe the supporters club and/or Ultras can come up with something new.

accymel 16-02-2005 14:06

Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

So true Alice, everyone that works with kids are n should be CRB checked like myself, n if so the club cannot be accountable as it didnt know n did all its checks, i think they will lay more boundaries to applicants next time tho.

Thankyou for the recent comments. We are after all a small community who need to back each other when events such as these arise. And I do agree for the sake of other parents who may also look at this site as I did. It needs to be locked!

Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

Thank you Sweet FA for that timely warning. We do not, at this stage, know the evidence in this case and speculation and innuendo are of know use to anyone; it is best to leave comment on what has simply been reported so far, which is that charges have been made. There is a well-tried and tested system of justice in this country and as such we must allow it to follow its course. Until then, I suggest people keep numb about what they think they know- remember, what is written on here is just as pertinent as written in a newspaper or broadcast on TV, so just remember the rules pertaining to libel and sub-judice.

As a more than interested member of this forum, I have to say that I am amazed at the way some of you have commented. Some of your remarks are at the very least immature, some are downright offensive and I cannot believe that they have merited a posting on the forum. I appeal to those who run this site to close the thread down immediately and let the appropriate authorities deal with it as it should be dealt with.

We do have a big game on Saturday, lets talk about that.

Yes lets not dicuss anything bad, god forbid someone using humor to lessen the impact, I'm sure a whispering campaign is a lot better.

Just to put the record straight- I (Keyco's dad) spoke to two club officials today & they acted by suspending the person straight away. They were unaware that this had been ongoing with the police since November, suggest the police take the rap for their communication in this regard as most people know the ID of "Stan". They are as disgusted as all sensible fans & would rather the club was not involved in matters as this as it is extremely bad publicity all round. They have taken appropriate steps with the information known at present & expect the law to take its course, the result of this will result in final action as appropriate. Rest assured that "Stan the monkey" is now RIP & a new mascot is inevitable as the comments of other clubs with this character would be most unwelcome. Remember it is the actions of a person rather than the character that will stand up in court & face the consequences. As with the club officials & true fans we are sorry that this incident has taken place & feel for the suffering of the victims & their familys. Especially with Eric being in hospital for the past week ill, I am certain this is the last thing he would have wanted to emerge too-get well soon Eric from us all.

Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

I dont think a new mascot is inevitable - this is just my opinion of course and I hate to say this but I think that no mascot ever again is more inevitable. I hope Im wrong about that but this is what Im thinking and I have to say, its a shame coz it was a good way to raise local Google Page Ranking for the club and seemed to be working but putting things into perspective, I suppose its a small consequence...

And I beleive EW is on the mend and should be at the game on Saturday :) - but I agree, this is the last thing he would want to hear about when trying to recover..

It is a shame that the Telegraph chose to go with the headline they did.... Surely he is more famous for "weakest link" so "weakest link on sex charges" would have been much better, but as I have said before I dont think the telegraph is Stanley friendly..:(

All the best to Eric and family. Hurry up back :)

Shurm 17-02-2005 09:08

Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

Its a sad day all round, yeah the Telegraph led with an enormous headline and the rest of the story was a few lines but the club gets tarnished. I wonder what the headline would have been without the connection ? I feel sympathy for the families involved Ive typed loads of stuff and deleted it I really dont know what to say its just a shock.

stanerlee 17-02-2005 19:18

Re: Head lines in the Telegragh today

Just a quick note. The police cannot take the blame in their lack of communication to the club.Until a person has been charged with an offence their identity and the nature of the investigation have to remain secret. We now have the spectre of human rights hanging over us and rightly or wrongly this is the current status quo that the police have to abide by.
Before you make any critisims please put yourself in the position of a person accused falsley of such a matter.
I am both police officer and stanley fan and the protection of children is paramount but it has to be done within the law and disclosure of the investigation to the club at any stage before charge would have rendered any subsequent charge and court proceedings useless.
How would that look to the alledged victims and their families ?
There is no easy solution or panacea in these cases so i would urge all parties to bide their time and let proceedings take their course, before idle gossip and media attention taint the case before proceedings begin.
