I did that too Katex.....have had a go too.

katex 10-08-2008 16:04

Re: Special Photo Competition (Macro)

And lovely they are too Margaret, but aren't they supposed to be magnified in some way ? Still confused ...

Margaret Pilkington 10-08-2008 18:13

Re: Special Photo Competition (Macro)

Katex, different cameras seem to have different magnification for Macro.......I am going to experiment with mine a bit......only problem is I sometimes get a 'wobble on' and then the focus is out.

Re: Special Photo Competition (Macro)

I've actually found a practical use for macro, sometimes the labels on foodstuffs are just too small to read even with my best glasses on, Now a quick focus dump to p.c. and hey presto, I can read the labelling.

Look a bit of a fool taking photos of labels in Asda, downloading to laptop and viewing it in the middle of the isles  :D

Re: Special Photo Competition (Macro)

Just had a though, I think I'm excluded from this comp, not sure that my camera has Macro mode, never gets used if it has, "could" be one of the preset modes that I never use, will have to check.
If I want to shoot macro I put it in manual mode and put a macro lens on.

Re: Special Photo Competition (Macro)

Whats macro?

I dont know if mine has it.

entwisi 12-08-2008 19:28

Re: Special Photo Competition (Macro)

its a close up mode that allows you to take pictures at 'life size'

Usually you need to get teh camera REALLY close to the subject

Will members PLEASE vote it only takes a minute

I am really getting fed-up asking you all to vote :(
if you really don't want to vote then there is not much point in carrying on with these competitions.
The members that do vote please encourage others to vote as well help me out here.

Done it .. !

Great fun this one, and taught me something hadn't a clue about before (still haven't ... LOL).

Take a look all you 'non-voters' out there and just choose one that appeals to you ..no need to be a photographic expert to judge.

Re: Special Photo Competition (Macro)

Come on peeps get voted. It only takes a sec. Mick is getting fed up, for all his efforts not much notice seems to being taken.
We don't want the comp to be lost.
Your votes matter.

I think the problem is that a lot of people don't even read the photo threads so asking them to vote in them is never going to work.

katex 14-09-2008 11:08

Re: Special Photo Competition (Macro)

Perhaps we could have one of those pages when you log in asking you to vote and link to it ? Course would have to be option to just carry onto the forum in a normal way. Hope you understand what I mean, lots of forums do this type of thing.

Re: Special Photo Competition (Macro)

What can I say, I’m utterly speechless to get so many votes and to think I always thought these competitions where fixed. :o
First of all can I thank my son Ben who is 8 for his brilliant camera work and allowing me to use this picture, secondly to all the members who voted for me especially one or two from the Stanley section, who judging by the comments know a thing or two about photography. ;)
I’m sorry Willie Miller but if you want a copy it’s going to cost you because I’ve had an offer from an Art Gallery to put on an exhibition so it’s now copyrighted. :o
The model Mr Hairy One The Caterpillar was not easy to photograph as he kept moving and at one point threw a tantrum and leapt from the leaf, as you know caterpillars are very scarce so when he made his bid for freedom we knew the chance of finding a replacement was not an option. In the end everything came together to make the masterpiece that you my dear friends voted for, I thank you once again. :D
