Do we need new rules in the photo competition

Well as someone has said the rules need changing.
do you think the fun photo competition rules are adequate or do they need tightening up ?

Less 28-09-2008 09:36

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

No they are not adequate, a new rule should be added.

Anyone taking the rules and the competition too seriously will be taken outside and shot!

Come to think of it, that could be a rule added to the main rules as well!

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

Mick, this is, as you say a competition for fun....Ok there are some small prizes...but not so that you would cheat to win one.
I enter the competition in the spirit in which it was designed...for FUN.
Just because one member of the forum questions the validity of our motives for voting, I don't think it should be seen as a reason for making this FUN competition bogged down by rules.......the members who it enter it for FUN probably don't read the rules(though I know we should)....and I think a plethora of rules would take some of the FUN out of it and make it harder work to moderate....so I am going to vote for the NO option.

Margaret Pilkington 28-09-2008 09:43

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

And this may be a bit of a thread wander her.....for which I apologise in advance.
I personally feel affronted that a member questions our motives for voting.
I vote for what I like....and it doesn't matter which member posted the pic....If I like it I will vote for it.

Sorry I acted in haste putting that proposal on as I don't want to be shot for taking the comp' seriously please ignore it and may I propose the following rules:-

1) no photo's to be uploaded to the photo competition.
2) no body to vote on the none existent photos.
2a] any member that uses honesty and integrity, will be barred from future competitions,
ALL VOTES MUST BE SEEN TO BE RIGGED.
3) no closing date to not upload to competition.
3a] everyone not uploading can choose a prize.
4)no voting until uploads have finished, (see rule 1).
5) all members that either, did not upload or vote can pick a prize.
6] In the event of a tie Jambutty WILL be the winner.
7) jambutty WILL win ALL competitions no matter what the theme.

Special Note
EVERY theme will be butty's or sandwiches.

The member who questioned the rules, now says that this was in an attempt to raise the profile of the competition.
I wish I could use a Jim Royle-ism...but someone tells me there is a rule about asterisk swearing on this forum :D

I'm suprsied this poll has actually been started. Surely it's rigged ? ;)

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

There is no surprise to me that Mick has started this poll, he has done it because he cares for accyweb and most of its members, what I am surprised at, is that certain people would continually stoop low enough to question everything and everbody on this forum, I like most accywebbers take the generalisation and accusations personally, I am quite sure that the mods feel very unnapreciated at times because of certain people, and they actually do a stirling job, it is time they were left alone to do it, without continual criticism from members of the forum, if some people arnt happy, go elsewhere! I for one am very happy with accyweb and the superb way in which the mods run it.

I am confused now! How come there are currently 10 votes for not changing the rules, and none in favour?? Is it possible somebody has missed this vote? Surely there should be ONE vote for changing the rules?

He's spent the whole morning watching the other thread he's corrupting, don't worry he will get to this post and no doubt report mick to himself for starting the poll.

By the way, if anyone would like me to report someones posts please p.m. me, I like the idea of phising for action, (only kidding Butt, I don't think there are any other members that would stoop as low as you!).

I don't think there was any element of 'trap'(maybe it was a miss-spelling and should have begun with another letter) about it...I think it was only portrayed as such to back pedal......Jam butty never ever seems to be happy with anything(or very little anyway) and to say it was to raise the profile of the competition...well, it was a very negative way of doing it.

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

Does anyone play Snakes and Ladders for fun?

Does anyone play card games for fun?

Does anyone play Monopoly for fun?

They all have rules of play that have been laid down to prevent cheating.

So yes the photo competition rules do need tightening up to prevent them from being bent.

Voting is not open until after the posting the pictures has been closed and no changing your vote once it is cast.

Had this already been in place the other thread would not have existed and neither would this one.

Not only are you complaining about the rules you are now trying to enforce your own version. Why not leaving the running of the site to the people entrusted with the job?

By the way in case you need to look it up, 'a prig' is not a misspelling for something more appropriate, nor is it an insult it is an accurate and legitimate description.

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

you cant stop members from changing there vote its called freedom of choice and there is no way of stopping it in the gallery software.
its up to your own conscience if you change your mind nothing can be done about it.
as for voting for friends that cant be stopped either.
if you want to cheat to win a prize then i feel sorry for you,
we don't know who voted for who
The competitions have been running fine for 52 competitions and as soon as we sort your upload link you start to moan.
if you dont like the rules set out dont upload photo's its simple .
there are some members that are happy with the rules the way they are if you dont like them dont enter.
And the so called loophole as you call it has been known by us for ages thanks for advertising it.

Mick you do a great job and you started this competition as a bit of fun. Don't be disheartened by one member who seems intent on moaning about every aspect of the site. I know I am not alone in thinking you do a great job:)

If you read the photo competition #52 thread from the beginning you will note that it was you (post #19) who suggested that I should see someone about my paranoia. What followed is down solely to you and your insulting comment.

Until then my contribution was pointing out that I didn’t have the Upload link and asking if I could email my photos to mick like last time.

The upload link problem got resolved and I posted my pics.

I also observed that few votes had been cast and ………….

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

Jambutty, it seems as if everything is a 'war' to you......you take something which is supposed to be for fun and turn it into something else....and not only that you infer that we all operate in devious ways.
it is time you saw someone about your paranoia.

The above is the post you mention.....it was in response to your post number 17...which implied that the members of accyweb were devious in their voting habits.

I don't consider my response was any more offensive than your inferences that we(the accyweb members) have little or no integrity in our voting in the said competition.

I consider what you do to be a form of trolling....which in many forums is seen as very low thing to do.
This is my last post in this thread.

I don't think the rules should be changed

The thought of cheating in an AccyWeb Photo Competition more than likely never even crossed anyone's mind, until "someone" metioned it

Even tho someone mentioned it I am sure everyone that bothers to enter won't think of cheating, whats the point?

The photo comp has gone on fine before now for ages, why let this one comment change it

You should have put a third option on the poll -

This poll shouldn't even exist because we're all too honest to cheat.

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

I dont think they should be changed - it is just a bit of fun.
people dont vote for pics that are good "technically" they vote for the idea behind a pic i suppose but that is good - it isnt an online art site - if it were then i would expect that people would improve their skills a little as some pics just wouldnt be accepted -
so yeah just a bit of fun!!
what i dont like is when pictures that are obviously not the poster's photos are uploaded i seem to remember one once being uploaded that had a watermark on it -which wouldnt have been there had it been their own photo but it was removed soon after.
if you enter a photo competition - even thought it is a bit of fun for gods sake at least take a photo lol

So pleased by your comments here Keetah, I have voted for your photos on many occasions to no avail, because they have been imaginative, truly beautiful and very professional. Thought you may have been insulted by some of the results, but happy to see that you are not ... 'tis usually the subject isn't it and how it relates to the voter?

Haven't voted yet (on the poll), as feel shouldn't be able to vote until all entries are in, but then we might miss a few votes, as only gives us 48 hours to cast a vote, and many people may not be available to do this.

Suppose the old cliche ... 'if not broken, why mend it?' ... so will probably vote to stay with the original formula that has worked for the past 51 comps.

Ah arent you sweet - no really - I dont mind its just fun. I am lucky that I have had time to invest in a hobby that will soon be turning (partly) into a profession. I appreciate that not a lot of people have that time - but it doesnt mean that they dont have imagination x so keep it up everyone
and thanks katex x

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

I think as it's just supposed to be a bit of fun we shouldn't take it too seriously. It's not as if someone's life was at stake or anything. Like Katex I think if there is one change I would agree with it would be not to open the voting until all the photos have been uploaded and the uploading is closed. The only problem I see with the current system is that someone may vote and then not look back in and there could have been another photo added that they like better.

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

if its just supposed to be a bit of fun, why give the mods more work by altering summat? if people forget n do not vote fer a later addition they like better, so what? its only a bit of fun, some on here question every rule they can find to question, they do a damn good thankless job, why not leave things alone until summat IS serious?

Mick 29-09-2008 05:51

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

The point about not opening the voting until uploads has closed can be sorted no problem.
but this will only give members 48 hours to vote.

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

How about having the competitions once a month with 3 weeks to upload and one week for voting?

P.S. This is just a suggestion before anybody accuses me of inventing new rules! ;)

derekgas 29-09-2008 07:21

Re: Do we need new rules in the photo competition

i notice some people have suggested possible changes, yet, if they voted they voted for no change, it hasnt been a problem for 51 competitions, until somebody decided to enlighten everybody to a potential slight issue, I voted no change, therefore wont be suggesting changes hence more work for the mods.

My suggestion wasn't an implication that it's a problem as is, just a way of perhaps pleasing some people. We can live in hope can't we?
