Well done on the last comp Margaret.

Am getting a stiff neck already through looking skywards ... LOL.

Manchester is brilliant for this ... used to do it when I worked there ... amazing what is on the buildings. Haven't seen anything decent in Clayton yet .. still can be quite modern too I suppose if interesting.

Kate, it doesn't have to be local.......it can be anywhere....but something interesting.
As I said, mine were taken in a variety of locations....but I am on the lookout for something local......might take a walk down to the Dunk....might be a crest or something carved into the building, or All Saints Church...or St Marys' must have some statues or carvings of some description.....not giving you ideas am I ???????

Actually no, nearly turned into the Dunk this afternoon Margaret.
Nowt special on Barnes Square Methodist, so will save you that trouble.

Re: Photo Competition 72

Well, Barnes Square is a Methodist establishment.......and was originally the schoolroom(I think), so it is going to be a bit on the plain side....Methodists didn't believe in embellishments.

I took my camera into town today...thinking that I might get a pic of the carvings above the Market Hall......alas they were all covered in sheeting.......don't know what they are doing, but not able to take a snap of the carving.......have seen acouple of other possibles though.
Would've snapped them today, but my battery died.

Margaret Pilkington 21-06-2009 07:42

Re: Photo Competition 72

I am very disappointed with the response to this comp. I thought it would give plenty of scope for pictures,
It doesn't have to be Gargoyles, Achitectural features could be anything that gives a building character......the shape of the windows, a carved door........and it doesn't have to be local.

shillelagh 21-06-2009 14:27

Re: Photo Competition 72

Ive just tried to upload some ... and it said uploaded successfully ... but theyve disapeared in to the interweb never to be seen again ..

Margaret Pilkington 21-06-2009 14:49

Re: Photo Competition 72

Jen contact Mick....he will always help(especially as it is you...I think he has a soft spot for you:D)
I was thinking you might put the one on of the stained glass window at 'The Oaks'......that is a beautiful pic......and a window is an architectural feature......do I sound desperate?

shillelagh 21-06-2009 14:55

Re: Photo Competition 72

ive got others margaret .. i did a photo quiz on haslingden and helmshore .. so theres some out of that lot that can be used .....

i could do forgot about that one ... also got one of the stained glass in the ceiling at the oaks ..

Will wait to see what happens .. mick shouted at me the last time i sent him a text message ... so he no soft spot for me ...:D:D:D

This is more difficult locally than I thought ! Where is a gargoyle when you want one ?

Found an ugly feature in Burnley today ... that's it up to press.

Margaret Pilkington 23-06-2009 19:35

Re: Photo Competition 72

Kate, I told you it doesn't have to be local.....why didn't you get the one in Burnley?
Also, I used Gargoyles as an example, but it doesn't have to be gargoyles.....it can be ANY interesting architectural feature.

I did put up what I saw in Burnley Margaret ... modern day ugly ... LOL.

Yes, I know a gargoyle was only an example, but couldn't find anything else of interest :( ... and have nothing suitable on file already. Still looking though.

Thanks for your votes, was taken in Singapore in little India.
Struggled picking a theme, I've been after a photo of a Heron the last few days, these things are very nervous and must have cracking hearing, nearest I got was about 600 yards away and it was off, so i picked wildlife, hope you all have some to contribute.

Well done K.S.H. I voted for that one ... 'twas those Red Skinned muscles ...LOL.

You're right, Herons are very nervous ...not sure whether hearing or movement that freaks them ... have one visit me every day (then 2-times me and slips off to see Garinda), maybe I can grab one of it for the next competition, zoom on at full though.
