I understand the phrase 'Number of posts' alongside each poster's name. but what does 'forum power' mean?

I don't know what the difference is between a posting thread an
d a blog.

If you look at someone's post you will see a red 'like' at the right hand side, click on that to show you like their post.

There you are, Bob. I 'liked' your post two. Because I must admit I don't know what Rep Power is either, never really thought about it.

And conversely if someone should approve of something you've written, they could "Like" your effort or reward it with "K", enhancing your rep (reputation) power.

Bob - a blog is a bit like a diary.
You can(if you wish) outline what is happening in your life...or you can have a good old moan about what is currently getting your goat...putting your back up.
Folk read these and make comment(if you have enabled this facility in the blog control panel).
I can't believe you have been here since 2007 and still have not got to grips with these sections of the forum...or are you jsut having us on?
