We are now at the end of our second week of isolation.
we are supposed to have another week to go, but The chief Medical Officer of Health Prof Chris Whitty is making noises that suggest more time will be added to our isolation.
This pleases me not one bit.
I have found it a bit of a trial...and not because I am bored or fed up. I just don't want to be cooped up....not having any social contact with people. It is tedious and tiresome.
I was reading about Terry Waite.
He wrote in some online publication that he had been to America.
While he was ther ehe did a tour of the jail at Alcatraz.
The guide took them into the cell where solitary confinement was meted out as a treatment.
Terry Waite said that when the guide closed the door there was not one chink of light.
They were told the prisoners who were put into solitary confinement were usually there for a minimum of five days.
Terry waite made the observation that he did not think he would last five mintes in such isolation.
It was only a short while after this that he was kidnapped in Beirut and was in isolation...complete darkness with no contact for five years.
it begs the question...how on earth did he cope with something like that?
so when I look at what he dealt with I feel like I am being a bit of a wuss....at least I have light, heating, food and access to the outside world via my computer...and yet this is not freedom.
Then I though to myself.....my physical self is being quarantined/isolated, but my spirit is free to roam where ever it wishes.
I have a virtual time machine in my computer....I can go to all the places I have visited and be with the people who mean the most to me...so I really should consider myself lucky shouldn't I?
I have not done much today ..other than a few mundane chores...cooking, washing up, vacuuming making the bed...that kind of stuff that has to be done each day.
I was going to wash the bedding, but I looked out of the kitchen window toward Harwood and the sky was as black as your hat.
When I went upstairs with that thought in mind...three of our four cats were snuggled down onto the duvet.....it seemed a shame to disturb them(why? I don't know, they take great delight in running up and down the stairs at 4 am in the morning...chasing imaginary mice...or at least I hpe they are imaginary).
So maybe the sheet will get done tomorrow and the duck feather topper will get an airing over the line...that is as exciting as my life is right now.
