Felt lousy for a few days with the cold that's going around but I seem to have shaken the worst of it off. I never used to get ill until I had kids and now it feels like it's every other week that one of them comes home with something. It doesn't help when you're not feeling well to have a small boy come into your bedroom in the middle of the night saying, 'I've got a snot, will you sort it out?'
Working on my second leaflet for distribution soon and I've booked a time at Ossy Town Hall for a meet and greet session. Thursday 15th December 3.45pm - 6.15pm - anyone can drop in and say hello, let me know what you want to see in Ossy. Hope some friendly faces call in, I don't want to be Billy no mates!
Went to the Area Council meeting on Tuesday. I've been to a few of them in the past and I have to question their effectiveness. The official Labour party line is that it's either Area Councils or Community Wardens - which is an easy decision because the Community Wardens are far more valuable to the area. But Oswaldtwistle is a slightly unique situation in that it does have a well attended Area Council - others only have one man and his dog turning up but Ossy gets about 40 or 50 people each time.
The main issue is all down to cost - although 40 or 50 people have a voice the cost of running the meeting is outrageous - there were at least four Council officers there on overtime, four Councillors all claiming expenses, hire of the room, hire of the equipment, three policement not pounding the beat, administration mail outs etc, it all mounts up. When you put it like that it's a no brainer to get the Community Wardens back in.
So, if Labour get in and scrap the Area Councils I will have to ensure that there is some mechanism for regular meetings. These 40 or 50 people will still need to have a voice but there has to be a more economical way of doing it.
Just realised that next year the election is being held on May the 4th. As I am a Knight, and one of my favourite films is Star Wars I could go around saying May the 4th be with you! Some people would get the (very bad) joke, others would just think I've lost the plot, so, perhaps not!
