Beautiful Beverley.

Overlooker
Not the person, but the town in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

I booked this day trip a few weeks ago.
I just wanted to go somewhere I had not been before.
I wanted to feel the zing of exploring somewhere new.
So yesterday morning we(me and Spindles) were getting onto a Moving People coach at 7.30.
This bus was only picking up in Accrington and Barnoldswick.....so there would be a speedy journey into injun country.
I am alright...I have a pass that allows me to travel in Yorkshire unhindered.
I am a half breed....my Pa was Lanky and Ma was York.

Young James was our driver...he hardly looked old enough to be delivering papers.

He told us that he would take us on the scenic route - well unless there was anyone who might need a 'comfort' stop.
One lady put her hand up so he said we would go on the motorway.
There was the tiniest groan from the rest of the passengers.....so the lady said she would probably manage.
James said that if she was struggling there was a toilet on the bus....he would even pull into a layby so that the old girl was not bounced about while she was relieving herself.

So scenic route it was.
We went via Skipton, Harrogate, York and Wetherby.
We did hit a bit of a traffic hold up, so James reorganised the route.

We were in Beverley by 10.30.... the sun was shining, the birds were singing and Beverley beat all my expectations.
We were dropped off by the theatre.....greeted by someone from the Tourist Information office.....handed a bag of goodies which contained a map, a very nice pen and a bundle of discount vouchers along with information about what to see...and directions to get there.

I had taken the precaution of making bacon butties for our journey and putting drinks in my bag.
Usually when we go on a jaunt the first place we need to go when we land is.....no not the lavvy....but somewhere that serves hot filling food.
Today would be different.

I wanted to do a bit of exploring before finding somewhere for lunch.

Beverley is a very quaint town.
Lots of little narrow lanes.....a good helping of independent shops....along with the usual Tesco, WHSmiths and M&S.

There were tea rooms coffee shops, bake shops with lovely Yorkshire curd tarts(Ma would have been in her element here....she would have had slavver dripping off her chin)
My sights were set on taking pictures, having lunch out and browsing the place.

I was like a dog at a fair....I did not know which way to run first.

To be continued.
