I told you yesterday that we had the thunderbolt staying with us for sleepover......his Mum phoned this morning to see how he was, during the conversation she told me she had seen my blog entry for yesterday.........she said she didn't laugh....but had to bite her finger so that she didn't. Her hubby laughed though.
I get a bit embarrassed thinking my daughter reads my ramblings........don't ask me why......I know it is irrational because she knows me better than I know myself.
She said to me 'Mum, I don't know where you get the ideas for what to write' I told her pretty much what I said on here the other day, that frequently when I sit down at the keyboard I haven't an inkling what is going to appear......and that it amazes me that people want to read my ramblings (or sometimes, rumblings) She said 'Mum, you should've been a writer'......my response 'I wish'........ and 'it's still not too late'....... now the reason that I bring this up today is simple.......people tell me that they like to read what I write......and in The Daily Mail today, I spotted a competition to write a short story.........5000 words or less.
I have been writing a story and have currently got some 2000 words already written.......should I chance it and enter......?
Would my humble efforts be of a satisfactory standard........?
The prize.......well, a number of entries are going to go into an anthology and the authors of the short listed stories will all receive a copy........ copies will go to publishers, editors and literary agents....... the publishers may even sponsor the winning author. There is an entry fee, but it is only £5.
I am going to mull it over. I don't think the scheme is what used to be known as 'Vanity' publishing because they usually ask for larger sums upfront.
Watch this space........If I do enter, I may put excerpts of my story on here and I will expect you to tell me what you think.
I received a brochure from Accrington and Rossendale College today. It had all the courses outlined for the next academic year.
I have put it to one side and I am going to think about that one too.........I'm sure it would do my brain good to be stimulated with some learning.......anyway we have a damp patch on the wall upstairs......a certificate would just about cover it......!
This blog is a real mixed bag today.......I just wanted to mention how pleased I am that the views of my blog have gone over the 1500 mark and the comments have topped 200.........although, Garinda is still ahead of me....aaaarrrrgh!
And another thing about the blog........I spent ages yesterday investigating all the option buttons to try to find the button that gives Karma for blogs...........DUH......then I realised what lettie was referring to was.......... giving Karma in posts but designating it for blog entries........I felt really stupid spending all that time looking. I think there should be some other reward system for good blogs than the vote....you can only vote once.
Anyway, I gave lettie some for her blog about poor Sparkologist and his greek bog log.....
you know the one that needed a chain saw to get it down the tubes.
It gives the phrase 'do you want it slicing......or will you take it home in a lump' a whole new meaning.
