Well, that was a bit of a shock......me being asked for a date! I was sorry though that the guy got his friend to do the asking. The friend was quite a dish, in a mean Teddy boy sort of way. He looked 'dangerous' if you know what I mean.

It gave me something to think about anyway. When my boss returned to the shop from her sneaky ciggie break I told her what had happened, she was agog to hear what had happened in such a short time, and wanted to know what the guy who wanted to take me out looked like.
I had to confess that I didn't get too good a look at him. She asked me what I was going to do.
I told her that I would probably not accept. She asked me why would I turn down a date when I wasn't going out with anyone.....in fact I had never really had a boyfriend at all. The answer was......I was a bit scared! How soft is that eh? I really didn't think that anyone would be interested in me....none of my brothers friends had ever shown any interest other than being 'mates'.

The following day dawned and the Teddy boy turned up again to ask what my decision was........I told him that I was flattered at being asked, but I didn't know this guy and thought it would be a bad idea to have a date with him.
Anyway, he was not going to take 'NO' for an answer and went on to tell me what a great guy he was, that he had a steady job and was keen on motorbikes and that he would treat me well.

He asked me what I had to lose by just going to the pictures with his mate........I couldn't tell him that I was scared, so in the end I agreed to a date. He told me that the guy was called D*** and that he would meet me at the Arcade a week on Friday at 7pm. I wanted to know why the date was going to be the following week.... had he another girlfriend to get shot of.?????
The Teddy boy explained that they worked 12 hour shifts at the paper mill...... and that, that particular week they were on nights 6pm till 6am and that was the reason they were able to go into town during the day.

I had to believe him because it sounded plausible. When I got back to the shop, my boss wanted to know what had gone on.

I told her that at first I had said 'no' to the date, but that the guy had been so persuasive and in the end I had agreed. She clapped her hands in glee......I think she was more excited than me.
She looked upon me almost as her daughter and she had a son of a similar age. Over the next few days I wondered to myself if I had done the right thing and toyed with the idea of not turning up on the night.

The day of the date was drawing near. I told you earlier I had a gaggle of brothers and that we used to get into fights with one another......well the day before the date I had a fight with one of the lads. Being brought up with lads I fought like one.
During this fight my brother landed a punch to my left eye......I ended up with the biggest, black eye you have ever seen......the eye closed up and I couldn't see a thing.

Hell, I know that before a date that is when the spots come out, but this was something else. How could I turn up with a 'shiner' and expect this guy to take me out? What the hell was I going to do. I didn't know where he lived. I only knew his first name. I would have to turn up and then tell him I couldn't go out with him.
I went to work that Friday and my boss was horrified......she sent me to see the doctor. I told the doctor what had happened and he laughed.
He said that there was nothing I could do to make the situation better, and that time would sort the situation out. Well, that was a great help!

On my way back to work I bought myself an eye patch..... that was the only thing I could think of. As the day wore on I got more and more nervous. So much so, that my boss was worried in case I should do some damage with the bacon slicer......she sent me home early.

I have to say that I didn't make any special effort with my appearance. I thought that as soon as D*** saw me he would turn on his heel and walk away..........to be continued

:) The only way it could be bettered is if it was in paperback, then you could curl up in bed to enjoy it.
