Maryville.....
Another place that we made a brief visit to......
Our nephews wife Anne, always liked to take us somewhere lovely on her days off.

Maryville was one of the places we took a drive to......for afternoon tea.
It was only a small place, but full of character.
One main street with craft shops, antique shops, a bakery and of course a pub.

It was in the antique shop there that I bought a little toby jug as a gift for my son-in-law.
I paid way over the odds for it but bought it because I had sort of given it a history that may not have belonged to it in real life.
I kind of imagined that it had belonged to one of the British migrants that had travelled out to Oz for a better life.
I imagined that some British woman had had to leave most of her possesions over here when leaving the country, but took the little toby jug because it was only small, and reminded her of home. Perhaps it had been a gift from a member of her family.
In my way I was bringing something essentially British back home......well, that's my excuse.

Beechworth....well my memories of Beechworth are from a more recent visit......2004.
We stayed with our nephew and his wife for three months....and Beechworth was one of our haunts for a Sunday lunch.
It was a place that was reached by travelling the winding roads through wooded countryside.
A place that was favoured by mature bikers.......my husband and nephew were in their element drooling over the lovely shiny chromium plated motorbikes....while Anne and I loved looking around the quaint little shops.

It was autumn the last time we were there, so the leaves were lying in deep crisp piles.....and me.....well, I wanted to shuffle through these leaves and kick them into the air......I was advised that this would be a very foolhardy thing to do, as these piles of leaves could be harbouring dozy snakes or venomous spiders.....so you can be sure I gave the piles of leaves a pretty wide berth after being told that.

These are just some of my memories.

I just thought I would relate them and let you know how sad I am that these places will be changed forever......and sadder still that the friendly people we met during these travels are suffering so much at the moment.

My thoughts are with them.......and have been for many days.
My prayers for them are that the fires abate and they can return to their lives...that they be given the help that they need, and that they find the courage to face the difficult times ahead.</p>
