excuse me...!

hello there...pardon me for asking, but do you know what level of Hell this is.

We spend three months in lockdown.
During that time I think I ventured out for less than an hour something like eight times.
I stayed away from daughters house...when in the normal course of events I would go over there every day for a couple of hours...chatting and indulging in our joint passion of genealogy.
But had to make do with short Facetime contacts.

Yes, yes of course I know that everyone was doing exactly the same and although I really resented having that three months of my life stolen....I put up with it.
No...not quietly.....if you know anything about me you know that I am not quiet....I like to vent a bit...let off verbal steam.

As the lockdown eased it really did not feel much better.
I absolutely hated being shepherded when out shopping....Having to wait outside until called for my short turn in the shop...Feeling guilty if I spent a nano-second too long browsing or trying to decide what I wanted because I knew this was creating a wait for some other shopper waiting to come in.
I observed social distancing, I washed my hands often(nothing different there).....I did what was required of me.
But it turned shopping from a pleasure into a joyless and irritating task. Something to be endured and I had to psych myself up for it.

Then there was the possibility that shopping would be made even less comfotable by a government edict that says Masks when out shopping are compulsory!

For goodness sake why?
The levels of people with the virus have been falling off(so much so that the current vaccines being produced cannot be tested here because there are not enough people to make for relevant trials...the scientists are having to take the trial vaccines to Brazil).
People are so scared that they actually want to be regulated in this manner.
And to comply I am being asked to wear the emblem of fear...a face mask.

All the stuff that was spouted about masks being useless in controlling the infection when the pandemic was at its height are now being turned on their head.
Even though there is no(or very weak) evidence to suggest that masks do anything other that create aggravation and discomfiture.

From Thursday if you want to go into a shop and you are not wearing a mask, then it will be 'hard Cheddar' come back with your face covered and we'll think about it.

This does not sit well with me...as you will already know if you have perused the thread on the Coronavirus.
I have fully explained my reasoning and my rationale for my opinions and beliefs.....not toeing the government line sets me apart from those who embrace the edict.
I feel the freedom to determine my own risk is being taken from me....as if I am twelve and have not the brains to butter my bread with a blunt knife.
I do not want to be nannied.
Life is a series of risks and I can risk assess these for myself.

During the pandemic I have been checking our temperatures, I have been doling out vitamins, I have been gargling twice a day with mouthwash that has alcohol and a bactericide like compound in it(even though I know that the virus is something else...I figure the alcohol will inhibit that).
I have not felt unwell during this time....and although I have Hay Fever I know the difference between the symptoms of that and the virus.
If at any time I had felt unwell then I would have had us both self isolate.
I am not stupid, nor am I cavalier in my dealings with this.
It has been a wonderful Spring and had it been normal I would have been off on trips with my camera...but I have done none of the things that bring me joy.
How is such a joyless existence 'living'....and you are going to tell me to ask those who were struck down...yet it is no consolation to me.
During my career I must have been in contact with all kinds of infection...and rarely was I off work.
I know that immune systems deteriorate as we age but I still feel cheated because decisions were made for me.
Had I been allowed to choose, who knows? I may have chosen to stay home....but it is easier to accept when it IS your own choice.

So come Thursday, I will not be going to the shops.
There is absolutely no way that I will be putting on a mask when I do not believe they have any benefits for me or for the people that I come into contact with.

I do not want my immune system trashed by not having contact with the general bugs that I would come up against in my daily life.
The bugs that keep my immune system ticking over and on ready alert for whatever infections migh spring to attention in the autumn and winter.

My other half will be wearing a mask....and he thinks that I am just being awkward...perverse, just for the hell of it.
Digging my heels in because I am being mule-ish

I can remember my dear old Ma once threatening to knock me into the middle of next year.....heck I wish she was here now...I would let her.

I truly do not want to think that this way of life is what I have to look forward to.

So what Level of Hell did you say it was?

to be honest only thing i have really missed is my football matches, i have found shopping much easier with going early doors,i aint missed going anywhere due to popping across to the allotment,so can honestly say its been no big deal as far as i,m concerned,

It is good that you have the allotment Cashy....open air, growing things....that is priceless.
When I have gone out it has been early doors too....mainly so that we encountered fewer people.
But I have missed getting on the bus to the seaside.....sitting at the end of the pier at Southport or on the green at Lytham with a fish and chip lunch.....ah, such simple pleasures.

I did miss not visiting Nicola though....I do it so that she is under my surveillance.....and the FaceTime sessions did not really allow me to see how things really were.
She is a lot like my Ma in that respect...paints on a smile, tells me what she thinks I want to hear.
Harder to do that in person.

we dont grow anything margaret, just sit and read and things, hard work aint my bag any more, done enough of that.:D
