It's 8:14

It's 8:14 in the morning.
I am sat there having my cup of tea and a bit of toast.
The phone goes.
I don't like late night calls or early morning ones(OK, OK...I know that 8:14 isn't that early).....these kind of phone calls usually mean problems, trouble or some bleeding imbuggerance.

I didn't know the number and of course the sensible thing would have been to ignore it, but my brain was still on fuzzy mode, and a bit of curiosity got the better of me.

So I picked the phone up.

'Good Morning Ma'am.
This is Saira Bhatti calling you from Italy.
I am doing a survey on your opinion of Italian food'
To say I was dischuffed was an understatement.

My response to her call was very terse to say the least and went something like this.

'Do you know what time it is here?
Quarter past eight!
I have just got in from a very busy night shift in the local A&E department.
I have four children who need to be at the bus stop in seven minutes time.
I have to check that they have all got homework, games Kit, musical instruments, packed lunches before they leave.
The only food I am interested in right now is a cup of tea, some toast and my bed....in that order.
Now get off the line and bother someone else with your stupid survey'.
I put the phone down.

This was all said without taking a breath or pausing for thought.

I have been up to see Ma this morning and recounted this story to her and it made her chuckle...himself said I was just rude.

Tut. Tut telling porkies
If I get a call like that or any call they have to get passed the answering machine first
If I know who it is I will pickup if I don't know I just leave it to the phone to sort out:D

Mick, yes....of that I am guilty....but do I have any remorse?
What do you think?
The people doing these surveys must endure far worse..I consider that I was quite restrained.

We let our answering machine take all unexpected calls these days. We put a message on that confounds people: it's an inhuman robot voice saying "you know what to do at the sound of the tone". We made it using an App called Voice Control, or something like that. It seems to work on these obnoxious callers. Sometimes they call back a second time just to be sure of what they heard. I chuckle at that - anything that annoys them is fine by me!

My phone is old and almost clapped out.
I have a new one ready programmed when this phone finally bites the dust...but being such a frugal Lancashire person I cannot chuck it away while it still works....even though the answer machine is a bit hit and miss........but I like your style Carolyn.
