Listening.

I am not going to betray any confidences I hope by writing this, but what happened to me last night really disturbed me.

I was contacted by a member on here, who I only know through the forums. They contacted me asking for some advice, and because it was getting hard to explain in writing, I suggested this person contact me by telephone.

I'm not going to give any details because that wouldn't be fair. However what this person has gone through, and is having to face now, made me want to weep.

I couldn't really give any advice, except for a little practical help, and the fact that when things are so bleak they can truly only get better. However long and dark a tunnel is, there is an end somewhere, a chink of light.

I felt really inadequate listening to how this persons life, and that of his family, and spiralled out of control through no fault of their own. It made me realise how selfishly I view my own problems sometimes.

I don't know if talking to me helped at all. I know this person from their threads, and I know they are a strong and intelligent person, who had the foresight to call the Samaritans as well. There is another member also now willing to help this person.

I have no idea if this person reads this journal. If you, do I meant every word I said. You are not alone, if you want a chat you have my number, and if you fancy a brew my kettle is always on.

Perhaps I shouldn't have writen about this, but it just made me realise how little we all actually know about other people, and how the gift of being able to walk a mile in someone elses shoes would be good idea for all of us.

I have no great religous beliefs, but I do think things happen for a reason sometimes. What seems like a terrible thing, may in the end be a blessing in disguise.

Oh, Rindy.........how right you are! We only know what people want to tell us. I am sure just talking to you has helped this person. Sometimes just talking allows you to see your way through difficulties.......and difficulties are what make us into better people. Use the difficulty.

I don't think that you have betrayed any confidences Rindy. It is nice to know that you are there for someone. If I ever needed help, I wouldn't think twice about ringing you.
