Today's news of the bombings in London brings back many memories of the seventeen years l lived there.
In that time l heard three bombs go off. Harrods, Hyde Park and Soho. The last one, myself and Milly were in the same street as the Admiral Duncan, enjoying an after work drink before facing getting onto the hot tube. The sights l saw of people dead, and covered in blood will stay with me forever.
Just watching from the safe distance of the tv makes you want to weep. How some people can want to bring so much hurt and destruction to others is a mystery.
Even if people weren't directly involved, this is going to affect so many peolpe. Just the logistics of trying to get home with no transport system in place will be a nightmare. The long term consequences also will be severe. Tha company l worked for when the Gulf War happened, saw profits slump by 60% as tourists stayed away from Europe.
Politicans said today terrorism will not win over democracy. It's hard fighting an unknown enemy though, no matter how careful people are, there will always be the fanatics who some how think these actions are right.
One of my friends lost both hands in the Soho bombing. He's living a full and happy life now. He's not let that one sad individual win, neither must we as a country.
