Those of you who read my stuff regularly will know all about my two ginger kitties.
When my lovely black cat,( Pasha ) died after being our pet for 19 years,I said I was having no more pets.
I think most of us have made this vow at some point...and I guess that most of us have broken the vow too.
My vow, to have no more pets lasted barely a week.
When I broke it, I did it in regal fashion by getting two ginger kittens....not one kitten but two,of them.
Himself looked dismayed when I turned up with both of these ginger fur balls.
After a week of mayhem, he casually remarked that he thought 'we'(really meaning me) had made a bad decision.
I felt quite aggrieved at this throwaway comment and was very frosty with him for a few days.
These two kitties had not replaced Pasha, but they had made me feel better, less sad and upset and they had given me back my smile.
So how could he think that?
These two kitties slept entwined in their little bed....The had to be touching and in contact with each other...where one was, the other was not far away. So it would have been cruel to separate them...they loved each other.
We have had then in our home and in our lives for almost 18 months.
In that time their individual personalities have shown themselves.
Ruby is really his cat.....she looks at me with ill concealed disdain....as if to say to me 'human female, you have lost him, he is mine'
She sits on his chest and makes sugar eyes at him.
If she thinks he is not taking her on she paws his chin.
She is haughty and does not come to me unless I have a treat in my hand....and sometimes even then she will ignore me.
Now, Rufus....he is my cat. He loves to be combed stroked and have his belly tickled(very unusual in cats).
He follows me about and will even sit on the side of the bath while I am in it....he will lick the back of my legs before I dry them.
He will nestle into the crook of my arm if I am reading, lie on my feet when I go to bed.
He likes to be near me.
So both of them are very important in our lives.
Ruby sits at the back of the door....looking for an opportunity to escape, (she is good at this, but we are usually very vigilant and stop her altogether, or on the odd time she has made it....we catch her before she gets out of the yard) Rufus has tried a couple of times to get out, but his efforts have no substance to them.....and he is easily caught and returned indoors.
The kitties are inside cats...we do not want them to wander, to become targets for young boys with air guns and no finer feelings about animal or pets.
We have reared them to be indoor cats.
If I am going through a door to the outside world, I check to see that both kitties are not near enough to shoot through....himself says he does, but evidence does not bear this out.
If Ruby has got out it is usually when he has been going out....and on the times she has got into the yard he panics like mad.
Yesterday, it was a beautiful day.
Tyler had no Judo class so I asked if he would like to come on a bus ride with me.
So we got the 8.50 bus to Preston....not sure where we would end up, but we had the day to ourselves.
We had a lovely day out, looked at shops, had a walk along the sea front and the pier....played the penny drop machines, then had a very pleasant lunch.
We arrived back home just after 4pm.
I took the lad home and my daughter said that her dad, Greg and Marnie had gone out about half an hour earlier.
There had been some kind of emergency, but she did not know what it was.
Her dad had not left the keys to my house he had just gone off in a fluster.
(Sounds about right - he is not good at dealing with the unexpected...and I mean this in the kindest sense)
I said I would go home and sit in the sun until he came back.
Just as I said this Greg and Marnie came back.
I asked what had gone on....Greg said he would rather himself told me.
I said to him ' come on, I am a big girl now'
So he told me that Ruby had escaped, but fortunately someone had taken her to Vets 4Pets on Eastgate.....it looked as though she might have been clipped by a car....she had some injuries, but because she was chipped they knew who she belonged to and had rung himself to go and get her.
Greg said he had just been the support and the driver...he said 'Dad was really in too much of an upset state to drive down and get her on his own'
He said that he felt I was going to kill him when I found out(what made him think that?).
So I hurried home, not sure of exactly what I would find.
To be continued.

yeh form a big attachment to pets i think,we lasted about 18 months before we got another dog, To be honest best thing we ever did, Freddie has made a huge difference to the happiness of our house, he loves everything and everybody, next door used to have a cat and we couldn't believe it, it used to come in our yard and sit next to Freddie in the sun. lol. thing is he wants to be mates with every cat, an they dont understand an spit an scrat at him lol though those on our street dont, they are used to him now, in fact was camping a neighbour an his missus last week and one of the cats from down our street, came up to him and gave his nose a lick. lol
