The tinlids wanted to go on the pier...well, no to be more accurate, they wanted to go on the amusements on the pier.
The Go Karts had a magical attraction, as did the trampoline and the bouncy castle......and not forgetting the Ice cream place.
I think someone had wound Woody Head Pecker up.......she wanted, and wanted and wanted.
We walked past the amusements......she kept trying to drag us back to what she wanted to go on....but we told her that she had to behave and come with us if she wanted and ice cream.
That put a totally different complexion on things....and she skipped along side her Daddy until they got to the ice cream kiosk.
There was much deliberation over what flavour of ice cream she was going to have......it was Kelly's Ice cream...huge dobrous scoops of the stuff.Nicola had a Rum and Raisin, Greg and the tinlids had a sort of fudge/caramel ripple. I am not a lover of ice cream so I didn't have any.
The man serving the ice cream told us to beware of the seagulls....and said it was best to sit under one of the sunbrellas.
Greg and Woody Head Pecker went to look over the bay from the side of the railings......she was happily licking her ice cream cone into a uniform point........there was a wail of anguish......we knew straight away that some lousy thieving seagull had stolen her ice cream, leaving her with just a tiny bit of cone in her hand.
She bawled her eyes out. Inconsolable she was....so much so, that her daddy gave up his cone so that she could eat that instead.
His reward was that peace and quiet was restored......she really doesn know how to howl.
She said that she hoped the seagull got belly ache from the stolen ice cream.
Lesson learned, she sat at the table under the sunbrella to finish of her daddy's ice cream cone.......then we went into the arcade where the slot machines were.
Now if you have read other blogs of mine, you will know that I hate being diddled out of money...even if it is only coppers.
I looked in my purse and had quite a few two pence pieces......I decided that I would play these and when they were gone, that was it. I was done.
Anyway we chose a machine that looked ripe for the picking.....money overhanging the lip....just waiting for a well placed twopenny piece to send it cascading into the payout slot.
I fed the machine with a few twopenny pieces, and lo, the machine delivered......a whole deluge of twopenny pieces(there might have been a quids worth)....and not only that but a couple of cheap and tacky football key rings.......the tinlids whooped with pleasure.
We played the machines for what seemed ages......just as the money was running out we would win another small amount......but overall we put it all back.
We headed off the pier and back to the cottage......it was teatime.
It had been a pretty wet day, but we had still found islands of fun and enjoyment......and we could always hope that Sunday would be better.
