Old things.

Overlooker
No, not me! Though I suppose I do qualify for that title.

I was making a hotpot for tea tonight. I looked for my trusty potato peeler(45years old and going strong - a Prestige brand).....I searched the cutlery drawer.......could not find it anywhere.
Had everything out of the drawer. Still couldn't find it.
I mentioned to himself that my potato peeler was missing...we have one each you see. He doesn't like mine, and I can't use his. It feels wrong in my hand.

Himself swore blind that he hadn't seen it and he put in for good measure 'I definitely haven't thrown it out'.

He throws out potato peelers like no-one I know. He just scoops up the peelings and the peeler and throws them in the bin.

My potato peeler, being so old, had sort of worn to fit my hand.

I was really irritated to think it was missing.......but his assurance that he hadn't used it, and he hadn't thrown it out with the peelings rang bells in my head.
I searched the kitchen waste bin...himself peeled the spuds yesterday when the tinlids wanted chips with their pizza........there it was, in with the peelings.
I gave him a frosty look. 'it's no big deal' was his response.

'I thought you hadn't used it...and you said you definitely hadn't thrown it out' I said.

'Oh for goodness sake. It's only an old peeler...and you have found it now anyway'

I have several old bits of kitchen stuff...which I use....a bread saw......must be 100years old......my auntie gave it me when we got married.....it was given to her when she got married(she died something like 30 years ago).......the handle is loose but the blade is as good as anything modern.
I have some bone handled butter knives too.....and some old spoons.

A few times himself has tried to get me tto throw them out. I can't do it. I am attached to them.

Soft or what?

Know what you mean.. I've got lots of old stuff. Don't use some of it but I like to have it around. I throw out my potato peeler regularly but I always find it - think it came from a stall on accy market when I was buying things for my first student flat.

Hehehe... I too use a separate peeler from Sparks. I can't use his, I'm cack-handed with it. I bet your hubby would be the first to moan if you accidentally threw one of his old things away. :-)

Why Cashy? No knobs or dials on it.
Himself bought a new turbo model recently....it turbo'd into the bin in less than a day(and before he realised the binmen had been and emptied our bin).

Just remind him that if you had preferred 'newer models' you would have recycled him long since.;)

same here margaret .. i have all the stuff that mum and dad bought ... and i still use em today .. thing was can you remember when fiskars scissors came out the ones with the orange handles ... they cost a lot of money then ... about a tenner .. and dad went shopping and bought a pair ... came back wi em proud as punch he'd got a pair .. mum went thro the roof ... you spent that much on a pair of scissors .. and dad went thro all the benefits of em .. saying we'll never have to buy another pair again ... etc etc .. anyway he never did buy another pair .. he didnt .. and theyre still going strong now ...:D and hes been dead 26 years .. oh and i have a knife that i use to use to butter the toast or whatever .. mum brought that from ireland ..roundabout 1950 ..

Yes Jen........I have some Fiskars Craft scissors.
It seems that stuff back then was built to last...well, as long as you don't roll it up and throw it out with the spud peelings.
