A couple of weeks ago I was browsing through the Saturday paper and noticed some very good value Coach Holidays....something like £199 for 7 days BBEM somewhere down south.....oh, yes....it's coming back to me now......it was in Torquay. There were 4 days out included in this price....so I thought it was really good value. I mentioned it to hubby and he suggested that I phone Mutti and find out if she wanted to go.
(As if........!) So I phoned Ma and asked her what she thought.......well, I swear she had her case mentally packed in 30 seconds flat....anyway, when I told her the dates available, it brought her down to earth with a bump....she couldn't go because she was looking after Debs two dogs, while Debs went to Santorini. I could tell she was mega disappointed, but I said 'Never mind, I will look in next weeks paper and see if there is anything else'
Suggesting a holiday to Mutti is like giving her an itch to scratch. Except she will scratch till the skins all off!
The next day I had a phone call to say that she couldn't get holidays out of her head, and she would definitely feel better if she had a lovely coach holiday to look forward to.
I told her that if she found somewhere she thought was a good deal to let me know, and I would act as wheelchair pusher for her....she said it was my turn to choose somewhere....I told her I didn't mind where I went....to just choose and tell me how much I owed her. Then she said she would 'shout' me the holiday as it had been her idea. Just hang on a minute....how does that work then? I phoned her in the first place....but she was wanting to pay for me because she felt that SHE was inviting ME.
I told her that I wasn't going on those terms under any circumstances.....that I wanted to pay my own way, or not go at all.
Well, that shut her up!
She asked me to get the Shearings brochure and the Fraser Eagle brochure, and any other brochures that I thought might prove useful in making a choice. I did all these things, but before I could get them to her she rang me to say that she had booked a seven day break in Babbacombe at the end of July.....now she is revving herself up for the visit....she keeps looking at the excursions that are on offer, and wondering what the hotel will be like....she is in her element. I'm sure that ma gets just as much pleasure out of the anticipation of the holiday as she does out of the real thing.
On this holiday we are going on a day trip to Sidmouth....I just hope the weather is kinder to us than it was last time.
