Had a lovely afternoon out at Oakhill Park with my nephew (4) and niece (3) yesterday. Grego came too, and I was so glad, they would have run me ragged if I had been alone.
We all played on the little see-saw first, me and Ellie on one side and Grego and Charlie on the other. We were being a bit daft and giving each other the 'bumps' on it. The kids were laughing their heads off. With all of our combined weights, I'm surprised we didn't break it......
The kids then played on the slides and climbing frames before we went to feed the ducks. I actually remembered the bread this time and the ducks were hungry. They ended up with a darned good feed, half a loaf of Warbie's toastie and some crusts from a wholemeal loaf too.
We had a good walk around the park looking at the ponds and chasing each other on the grass. One way or another, we all ended up with dirty jeans. Then a miracle happened........
We were walking past the War Memorial when all of a sudden I spotted a magic tree. It was my favourite type of magic tree, for its' branches contained jelly babies....
"Oh wow!" I shouted.
"It's a jelly baby tree, come and look at this."
As I reached up high into the tree and pulled out 2 jelly babies, two little faces lit up and smiled.
We all then went to Grego's for a brew and some pop before I took Charlie home.
All in all, a top way to spend a couple of hours. Sometimes we are so consumed with being adults that we forget that we can still play....
