After suffering angina for about 3 years I was sent to BVH for another angiogram
But this time we got a private ambulance there and back which was great and it did not cost a penny.
The result of the angiogram was the same as the first and the consultant told me then that they were conducting trials using stents against bypass op and would I be prepared to go for the trial I said that would be ok and he said he would put me on the list.
But while I was waiting a complication set in I got an abscess on my lower spine, which was very painful and leaked most of the time.
I went to my doctor and he said they would not to the heart op until this was sorted out as it could lead to an infection, so he made me an appointment at BRI with a general surgeon called Mr Linden Jones he said he would cut the abscess out and it was only a small op so within 2 weeks I had my date to go into BRI, I had the pre-op tests the week before and was admitted to ward 4 on the Sunday the op was set for Monday morning.
Me and Anne arrived at the hospital at 10am the nurse told us to sit down and wait a while as they had no bed ready for me yet at 9pm a nurse came over and asked what I was waiting for (they had changed shifts) and they new nothing about it, I told them I was booked in for a op the following morning and she said to wait and she would find out what had gone wrong, when she came back she said she had sorted it and had found me a bed.
So I finally got settled in but had had nothing to eat or drink all day.
At around 11pm a nurse came in and said that I would be the 3rd 1 down in the morning and would I like something to eat as I would not be allowed anything in the morning I said I would and she went off, when she came back she had a brew and a big bacon butty with her it was great she said not to tell anyone he he.
The following morning I was woke up at 6am as they wanted some blood and then I could go back to sleep as I was going to theatre at around 11am,
But could I sleep NOPE no chance, they came for me at 10.45am I was put on a trolley and the porter left to do something else while I was waiting for him a nurse came over and said they had not done my obs for a while and took my temp and put the cuff on to do my blood pressure this was not a portable 1 it was fastened to the wall,
The porter came back and started to wheel me down to theatre, I was nearly dragged off the trolley until the nurse came running over and stopped him.
When we did get down to the theatre the anaesthetist was shocked and annoyed I had not been given a pre-med, anyway she put me out and that was that until I came round.
They wheeled me back to the ward and as I was still very drowsy they helped me back onto the bed, there were 2 porters taking me back and I think 1 was new to the job because his idea of helping me back onto the bed was to push me right on the operation that I had just had, even in the drowsy state I was in I nearly jumped over that bed.
After I came round properly I was not to sure what the surgeon had done and being nosy I started to feel round I could feel some staples and a tube and a bag talk about shock, when the surgeon came round he explained they were trying to drain the abscess and it was only a test to see if it would work this way I was kept in hospital for about a week, but doing it this way failed and after a few months it came back
