Just about two weeks ago I told you that I was going to teach myself to do brush lettering.
For the uninitiated, this is a kind of calligraphy...fancy writing.
Except it is not done with a pen....as the name suggests it is done with a brush....or a pen that has a brush instead of a nib.

I wanted to learn this form of lettering as it will be useful in my crafting.
I watched some YouTube videos and it looked like a doddle...but you know what they say....if it looks easy, it is hard....if it looks hard it is impossible.

I thought that I would have a head start.
I have been using calligraphy since about 1980....a long time.
But, no....if anything my past years of fancy writing made it harder.
I had got used to my own style....and I can only do one style....no matter how I try to change....I cannot.

In the last two weeks I have been doing drills(boring).....I have been practicing with different pens, brushes, inks and paints.

It has felt like a chore at times, but I think I am getting there.
It is still not good enough to use on cards.....YET.
That is the operative word....YET.

I have, tonight, made a bit of a breakthrough.....and I have been able to write some words that actually 'flowed'.....and though far from being perfect, they do look (I guess the best word is) alright.

There is still much more practice to be done....but I think I have a 'handle' on the technique.
I might even get a bit bold....take a picture.....so that you can see.
Maybe you will tell me that I am deluded....or that I need to go to Specsavers....but I hope not.
I am not ready to take orders....but soon....I might be.:)

I have tried to upload some pictures of my progress...but the site won't let me.
I have put my scrawny efforts on 'Today in Pictures' Thread

All I can say is....I think I have it cracked....the writing that is

Cashy, it is sort of hard work...but then anything worthwhile usually has some thrutching attached.....though in this case it is 'mental thrutching'.

I think it will all be worth it in the end.
