Rootin'

I've been rootin' for my roots today for the first time in ages. My research now goes back to the late 1700's and I'm finding it hard going without access to Church records etc. I was prompted by an email from the National Archives to do a search on wills and to my great excitement I discovered one William Yates, also known as Yates the Elder of Yate Bank.
I know he is one of 'mine' as I've unearthed, pardon the pun, several generations of Yates, all from that area.

My Nana, my mother's mum, was a Yates, born at Steiner's View in 1899 but her parents were living at 91 Henry Street in the 1881 Census. The house is still standing, just across from the Stag. As to be expected, all the men were coal miners and the women worked in the cotton mills.

I did chat on MSN for a while with my friend, John, a fellow rooter, this afternoon and he was telling me about the new BBC series showing family history research with celebs. I would have loved to have been able to watch it and especially the one with Sheila Hancock due to be televised next week.

Hi June,
will it not be on any of the BBC digital/satellite channels which I think you already have?

If you get really stuck I could tape on video the Sheila Hancock one for you.

PM me if you want me to.

Don't tell any Aussies you have been rootin' it is a bit rude to them.

I applaud your patience in unearthing your ancestors.......I did once think about doing it but chickened out.
