Seeing stars

We have double side gates to stop unwanted visitors, known or unknown, from getting into our back garden and these are fairly high. They fasten with a very solid and quite large metal catch that protrudes a fair way out. They also bolt into the ground to stop any rattling should the wind be a-blowing.

One day last week as I closed the gates and inserted the bolts into their respective holes in the ground, I got up pretty quick smart and cracked the top of my head on the protruding metal fastener really hard. It bleeding-well hurt. Talk about seeing stars – I saw the whole blooming Universe and beyond.

It felt like I had split my head open but there was no blood so I knew that wasn’t the case. However, my legs felt a bit dithery. After all I have reached an age when my train of thought often leaves the station without me and one tends to be a bit more tender as time marches on.

I was feeling a bit dizzy as I made my way indoors to the lounge room where my husband was in his favourite recumbent position, horizontally placed on settee, watching the American News Hour on the T.V. Yes, the American one!

He didn’t turn his head as I entered and didn’t answer when I said I had hurt myself. Apparently Twittering Trump’s latest social media rant was more interesting and absorbing than a wife in distress. So I placed myself between his reclining body and the TV screen and again said I had hurt myself. Once he realised that he was no longer able to see the screen I had his full attention and he asked me what had I done.

I told him but instead of getting a sympathetic ear and some offer of assistance in my time of need he berated me with a stiff lecture about how I should start taking care and stop rushing about so much AT MY AGE, and AT MY AGE it was time I started slowing down. He said if I hadn’t been in my usual rush to do things I would probably have been more careful and I wouldn’t have done such a stupid thing, and it WAS a stupid thing as I could have really hurt myself. COULD HAVE!!! Wasn’t he listening to me???

Normally I would have retaliated but my head was aching too much and I couldn’t be bothered, so instead, being a bit of an actress and a drama queen when the situation warrants it, I put a hand to my forehead in a gesture that was worthy of an Oscar and made the comment that before I collapsed completely I thought it best I go and lie down, and off I went.

Well, guess what! Yesterday his nibs came in holding his head and said ‘you know what you did last week when you fastened the gate, well I’ve just done the same thing and it really hurts’.

It is to my credit that I uttered not one word…..

Oh Dotti, that is priceless.
You will know from my blogs( especially the one about the mattress) that I am hitched to a similar model to yours...maybe just a tad newer, but made out of the same bit of clay.
We should have learned over the many years we have been together, that sympathy is a plant that withers in their bit of garden...and treat them accordingly.

All you need to know is...it was karma!
Anyway I hope your head is better and your blog made me smile.More please.

Glad you enjoyed the blog, Margaret, and yes, thank you, my head is fine now. Funny you should mention karma - my thoughts exactly.

It is to my credit that I uttered not one word…..

What? Not even a mini gloatet? The Witchity one would've lathered it on ..... and then some had it been me! :)

I think I might have been tempted to do that too...although sometimes I really do not need to actually say anything.
I have perfected a certain 'look'...it says more than a thousand words.

I might not have said anything but boy! what I was thinking is best not mentioned - and yes, Margaret, you are right - a look can say it all....and I'm pretty sure it did.
