Still considering...

Friday....we are now into day four of twenty one.
So still a good way to go.
I told you in yesterday's episode that I had considered doing some steaming.
It is a good way to clean as it uses just plain tap water, no nasty chemicals and the good thing is it does for bugs bacteria and viruses.
When I steam I use a cloth into which I have sprinkled lavender oil and tea tree oil....both of these have anti viral properties and they smell nicer than bleach.

I got out of bed this morning and twisted awkwardly, so my back is playing up....so no steaming for me today.

When I was a student nurse I injured my back lifting a patient....a farmers wife who had had a cerebrovascular accident.
This meant that she was unconscious and needed a lot of caring for.
Back then, patients like this lady were turned every couple of hours and had their pressure areas rubbed with either talcum powder or rubbing alcohol.
It was during on of these position changes that I managed to slip a disc.
I was working with another nurse who was much taller than me so we were not well matched for handling and moving patients.
The lady we were moving was large....not fat, just very muscular and very tall.

I felt my back go and was off work for something like six weeks.
Back then the treatment for this injury was to lie flat on a hard surface.....it was a terrible time.....I took lots of heavy pain medication.....could not get upright at all....crawled to the bathroom.
At one point my doctor wanted to admit me for a spell of traction......thankfully this was not necessary.
So over the years I have really taken care of my back....I try not to do things which might create pain....but occasionally it troubles me.
It can be something as simple as a sneeze that will create a problem...or like this morning, an awkward twist.
I will take ibuprofen regularly for a couple of days....do some relaxation exercises and keep moving.....because resting flat on your back does not work and can make you stiffen up.

I have made my pastry for the pies....in fact they are done.
I also had some left over mash, so that has had some cooked shallots stirred into it and some grated cheese and it has gone into a pastry case.
Should make a filling lunch.
