The cook and the python..

I was reading the other day about a python eating a crocodile and on mentioning this to my husband he related a story about the biggest python he had ever seen. I’ve heard the story before – boy! have I heard the story before – but I thought I’d share it as it really is quite funny, though I guess you had to be there to really appreciate how hilarious it was.

He was working with a number of other men at Jabaru in the Northern Territory (here in Australia) erecting living quarters for a couple of geologists. One evening the men were all enjoying a beer or three in their makeshift accommodation when they heard an unearthly scream coming from the direction of the dunny (to the uninitiated this is an Australian word for the toilet).

They all ran out to investigate and what they saw made them double over with laughter. By the way, because the toilet was only a very temporary one, and because there were only men at the site, they hadn’t bothered to put a door on it so the blokes had a full view of what was happening inside.

There was the cook crouched up on the seat in a most ungainly manner, pants down to his ankles, definitely not a pretty sight, screaming and pointing to a huge python that was slithering down the path towards the dunny, getting closer and closer. Apparently the python was about 12 to 13 feet long, absolutely massive – probably looked even bigger from the cook’s vantage point.

The cook was Greek and as he was yelling out in his native tongue the men couldn’t understand what he was saying but by the terrified look on his face they knew what he meant. The fact that the men thought it so funny didn’t help but only caused him to be more upset and just about hysterical.

Eventually the blokes relented and chased the python away. Not sure if the cook ever got his own back on them or not….I would have put laxatives in their soup had it been me.

Pythons are supposedly scared of people but this was one time that the person in question was more scared of the python. At least he was in the right place in case he ‘disgraced’ himself…..

Dotti, because I have a very pictorial imagination, I nearly wet myself when reading this.
Although I am sure it was a very scary experience for the cook.
Like you,I would have got my own back on the men.....I would have used a set of dentures to crimp the edge of their pies.....a toilet brush to prick their sausages(used of course) and even the cornflake would have had a healthy(or unhealthy) dash of chili flakes in them.....boy would those guys have sweat!
