They say that the road to hell is paved with good intentions........it might just be........when I have been and come back I will tell you all for certain.
I had two good intentions yesterday......one was to steam clean the living room carpet......the other was to update the blog.
Personally, I don't think a 50% success rate is all that bad.
Steam cleaning the carpet has been on my 'to do' list for a few weeks.......you don't seem to notice how dirty the carpet gets until.......well, I suppose I noticed it more because the thunderbolts feet in his sleepsuits were very grubby......no, let's not mince words here......they were BLACK.
Action was definitely needed here. The only thing that has put me off is the hot weather. Steam cleaning a carpet is not for the faint hearted and not to be undertaken on a summery day.......well, unless of course you want to be left as just a greasy stain on the best bit of Brussels....(I wish...!).
Anyway, my hand was forced the other day.......the cat peed on the carpet in the front room........it didn't stink quite as bad as tom cat pee usually does.....because he has no, er......testimonials.
It smelled more like human pee......whatever, it had to go......the smell, that is not the cat ( though he did get threatened to be transmogrified into a tennis racquet if he does it again).
I have a polti vaporetto for such tasks......it produces high powered steam and gets rid of smells, germs and is generally a very good piece of kit. I bought it about 7 years ago and it cost me an arm and a leg....well, £350 to be precise. I have used it for all kinds of cleaning jobs and th good thing about it is you just used plain simple tap water....no nasty chemicals.
You do, of course have to use some elbow grease, but then if you didn't people would clean carpets for fun....I don't think!
My vaporetto is suffering from old age......it doesn't produce the steam at high power anymore......so you have to work that bit harder.
I set to yesterday and sorted out the cats' piddle corner first......and then went into the living room and shifted the furniture (well, most of it) into one side of the room and then started steaming first....and then using towel remnants wiping over the steamed bits.......well, you should have seen the dirt it lifted.......I was ashamed of myself.......bit by bit the colour of the carpet was renewed, and the pile was lifted again so it almost felt like a new carpet.
It took me quite a while to get the whole thing done...... then I went and gave the piddle corner another blast.
By the time I was finished I was knackered......and sweating like a stevedore. This morning I couldn't quite work out why I felt so stiff......then I looked at the carpet and remembered.
Well, as Jane Fonda said......'No pain - no gain'...or was it 'feel the burn'...?
The intention to write the blog was good too.......except by some kind of accident I fell into the chatroom......must've clicked on the wrong button and then while the page was loading I went next door, to the bathroom to shake the dew off my lily....when i came back I was in the Chatroom.
In the past I have avoided chatrooms......maybe because of the bad press that they have received. I found it all a bit bewildering at first and found it difficult to watch the chat, type, think and change the colour options for my text......maybe next time I will be a bit more adept...or maybe I'll just ghost for a while just to see what goes on. It was, I have to say, an interesting experience.......and I got a french greeting from my number 1 fan.
I might even do it all again.

How can steam cleaning a carpet make me so happy to read about? Talent, me thinks.
