When I retired I was daft enough to think that I would have more time to do all the things that I had put on 'hold'. I had visions of retiring in the afternoon and having a couple of hours reading a favourite novel, lying on my bed with the cats for company.
Why would I think that....?
Well, to me it seemed fairly simple, I would not be spending 37 and a half hours at work...that would free up those 37 and a bit hours for me to do things that I really wanted to do. Yes....it does seem simple. So pray tell me why I seem to have less time now that I did when I was working? ( probably because I spend too much time browsing in Accyweb)
Maybe I organised my life a little better, maybe I got a bit more help in doing the necessities.
OK, so now I don't get up quite as early as I did.....I maybe take a little longer to have my breakfast and read the paper. There are still things that I seem to have to squeeze into my day.
Perhaps we find the time to do the things we WANT to do at the expense of the things we feel we SHOULD do.......like the other day...I was inspecting the bed linen for when the overseas guests arrive...and I washed a couple of blankets......
I looked at my linen cupboard at the top of the stairs and decided it was a real shambles...it really needed a good sorting out.
I wouldn't want my Sister-in-law to need a clean towel and find my linen cupboard in such a state...she would think I was a fully paid up member of the Sluts Union (which in truth, I am)...so I spent a couple of hours folding and tidying the linen and sorting it into some semblance of order.
I felt quite righteous when it was finished.
Today I looked at the cupboard in the kitchen where I store my pans...well, you know how the bottom of pans get all black and grimy...this has rubbed off onto the shelf.....it really needs that guy on the TV to come along with some Cillit Bang.....I have put that chore on hold....and the same with the food cupboards and the china cupboards...they just may get done over the Easter weekend when there is a mouldy film on the TV.
I'm sure if I wanted to do these jobs I would find time to do them.... in fact I could be doing them now instead of sitting here......When my rellies have gone back to Oz, a souvenir of their visit will be clean skirting boards, a tidy linen cupboard and a reorganised kitchen.
I know I once told Garinda off for worrying about the state of his house when visitors were coming....I think I told him that his visitors were coming to see him not the state of his house...but I'm sure visitors are more forgiving of men than of women when it comes to household chores.
I'm just going to go and blow the cobwebs of my Marigolds...gloves that is!
