I managed to crawl out from under my blanket today to get myself to the bowling alley for the first game of the new Monday Bowling League season and I am so glad I did as my Monday partner, Martin, and I won
6 - 2!!
We didn't do too well on the first game but we did have an excuse. We normally like a ciggie or three during the match but it appears that it is now a smokeless zone. You wouldn't believe how many folk were huddled up outside, in the pouring rain, having a quick smoke. We were all fighting for the door mat too, can't get the shoes wet.
Anyway, after we had a 'fix' before the second game we managed to get our second wind and slaughtered them. It isn't a handicap league so we have to win outright. Martin had a 181 and my best was 167. Not bad scores we thought! We went on to do the same in the third game and beat them by around ninety pins!
I'm now reunited with my blanket.............talking of which...
Since the story in the Observer last Friday, I've had a few emails from mates I lost touch with years ago. One was from the husband of my best mate during my teens which brought back such a funny memory.
His wife had been taken into Rough Lee to have their first baby and he was kicked out after the birth having to take her clothes with him. They did that sort of thing in those days. He was stopped by the police on his way home and the suitcase searched. He tried to explain but on giving his name.............John Smith..........he ended up in nick. Bless him!
