We aren't getting it.........all because we can't say the full name of LlanfairPG.
Ma and I have just spent a short break down in Llandudno. Again? I hear you cry. Yes. There are good reasons for us going to Llandudno so much.
1) We like it there. (as good a reason as any)
2) It isn't too far away.
3) Ma has fallen out of love with 12 hr coach journeys
4) I like it because it is mainly on the flat.
We went with Robinsons. They have a much better pick up time (8.15).....less trundling round all the north west towns too......and their two hotels down in Llandudno are lovely. Much nicer than the Marine( which is just about alright - if you can't get a trip with anyone else).
We set off on a very sunny St Georges day morning.
I went up to Ma's to help her with the case and the wheelchair......though the task of getting the wheelchair up to where the taxi picks us up, is getting harder for me(must be getting old or something).
We were dropped off in Peel Street and within five minutes the coach was pulling up.
We were conveyed to Lymm in what was a pleasant amd trouble free journey.
We decamped the coach and made our way to Costa Coffee. Ma loves their hot chocolate, and felt it would be a damn fine accompaniment to the bacon butty I had made for her to munch on.
We were soon back on board and on our merry way. We didn't stay on the motorway, the driver opted for the old scenic route. He pointed out things that were interesting as we travelled.
Pretty soon we were on the coast road into Llandudno.......and it was only just after 12midday. He told us that he would take his time because we couldn't be there before 12.30 or the dinner wouldn't be ready.
Yes, we were going to be getting lunch.
Home made soup and a variety of fresh sandwiches. Great stuff.
We couldn't get into our rooms until after 2pm.
We had our lunch and I left Ma with the bags and went for a walk up Mostyn St.
Ma wanted some drinks for the room...some magazines as well. I wanted to get out into the sunshine and fresh air.
It was a lovely day, the sun was shining and the birds were singing, and here was I, sweating my cakes off in a three layer mountain coat.
I had looked at the internet forecast and it hadn't been anything like the weather we were having! I unzipped my coat but was still damp around the elbows.
In the end I took the damn thing off and carried the blooming thing.
Not much had changed on Mostyn St. I lie....one or two shops had closed up and were shuttered for good, but a brand new branch of Sainsbury's had opened where the old Woolworths used to be.
I had a wander round.....aimlessly because I didn't really need to buy anything from them.
I looked at my watch it was coming up to three o clock. I sauntered back to the hotel.
Most of the Robinson's travellers had been allocated their rooms and the bar area where we had eaten was now looking quite empty......except for Ma, gazing serenly out to sea.
I went to Reception and got our room key.
348...blooming heck we were up in the gods...third floor. I told ma. She went and sat by the lift(which was the size of a toilet cubicle - it said that it took 4 people...I didn't believe it).
I went up the stairs and opened the room and brought the cases inside, then I sat on the bed and waited for Ma to arrive.
The room was lovely, spacious and clean with fluffy white towels ready for us in the bathroom......we didn't have a sea view - we looked over the back of the hotel.
I thought that this might be a good thing. I thought it might add weight to my persuasion of trying to get Ma to come out and about with me......it didn't!
Ma came into the room and sat down on her bed. That was it for her until teatime.
She asked if I knew what was for tea......I didn't. While I was unpacking, Ma kept on trying to guess what it would be. In the end I told her I would go down and have a look to see if I could see the dinner menu.
She was disappointed - it hadn't been posted.
to be continued.(and there was me thinking there wasn't much to write)
