What a Bummer.

Today my computer did a dying duck act and left for the big hard drive in the sky....taking with it many of my photos(I was just in the process of moving all my documents pictures and music onto an external hard drive when the meltdown happened...alas too late)
I had an inkling that the thing was on its way out, it had been making a very funny noise over the last 24 hours....it was sort of the computer version of Cheyne-Stokes...nurses out there will know exactly what I mean by that.
Should have done it all much sooner.....but such is life

I messed around a bit.....really not knowing my ear from my elbow where the resus of a computer is concerned....then finally had to accept that the thing was dead as a dodo.

Himself knew that I would be like a wailing banshee(and not nice to know) if I didn't get myself another machine, so he gritted his teeth, took me down to Aldi and bought me this new shiny black sleek model.

I have untangled cables(a wire version of spaghetti junction) and tried to get the new rig into some kind of tidy order...not sure how long it will stay that way, but I can hope.

Now I have to get used to a whole new set of programs.......hated to have Bing as my search engine so I have just blown that off.......changed my homepage back to my favourite......after all who wants to be greeted by a strange home page?
I really don't like change:dummy:

I have had to convert to a newer version of Incredimail:mad:......I had been avoiding upgrading because I didn't like the look of the new version......but it seems I have two choices...get used to it or ditch it.

I have lost many of me e-mail addresses........Grrrr, and all because I didn't pay attention to my instincts
It is going to take me a day or two to get used to Windows 7....at least it is better than crappy Vista(I hate that with a passion).
The thing about Windows 7 is it will remind me on a regular basis to back up my files.....I'd better take some notice.

So today has been an expensive day, it could've been worse, it could have waited until the VAT was put up to 20%......

I'm off now to hawk my duck......it is going to take an awful lot of half crowns to pay for this new computer.:D

i had that happen to me margaret .. but accyman managed to get some of the stuff off the old hard drive .. dont know how he did it .. but he did .. which was lucky seeing as it was all the stuff from where i was secretary ... and i got most of the photos as well ...

You even make me laugh, Margaret, on something as serious as the death knell of your computer. :)

Just had a catch up session with you blog.

Like Katex, even the pc's death raised a smile.

Hope it's all sorted now. x

Thank you for your comments, I am glad they made you smile. The whole episode made me sweat, then swear in a most ladylike fashion....is the word 'chuffing' really a swear word?
A friend of mine knows a man who is going to try and lift some of the stuff off for me.......well, if he can.......and I will show my gratitude in the time honoured fashion....crossing his palm with bits of paper with the monarchs head on them.
To be fair, after a lot of thought.......(tangible and clear thought at the time the computer died was something that didn't really come easily) many of the pics, Ma has copies of...and Nicola has copies of lots of the others.
Anyway I still have to master Windows 7...so I'm off.
there might be a blog tomorrow, there again, there might not:)
