Re: Why?

I don't think it matters when you eat them, but it does matter which end you start eating first. Much debate has been raging on this point ever since Swift described the consequences of choosing the wrong end.

I, too have always kept the Easter Eggs until Sunday...and i was always taught that an egg looks dead, but has the essence of life.....Jesus was dead, but after the resurrection he was alive in the hearts of men.

Re: Why?

I eat my Easter Eggs on Easter Day (or I would if I got any - which I don't). Easter Day is the Sunday.

I open my Christmas presents on Christmas Day, too. Am I missing something here?

I think maybe the original poster is one of the eastern european immigrants that some have complained about stealing all the jobs, and belongs to the Coptic or Orthodox church .

I have always believed that we should not start eating Easter eggs until Easter sunday. This being the day that Jesus rose from the dead and the eggs signify new life. Anne, when do you think is the right time to eat the eggs?

Let's not forget Anne is originally from Preston.

Rather than eat the Easter eggs, she was brought up to believe she should be rolling them down the hill in Avenham Park.

Sorry Chuck(y egg) couldn't resist it.

Re: Why?

Mmmm lots of interesting answers here. Rindy's right. Well sort of.
This is what I was led to believe, firstly by Mum n Dad and later through Sunday School.
Good Friday was the Day that Jesus was Crusified. He rose again 3day's after the Crusifiction.
Day 1 Saturday, Day 2 Sunday, Day 3 Easter Monday. Assention Day.
The Chocolate eggs are to represent the rolling away of the tomb stone. It was considered unlucky to eat the eggs before Easter Monday without rolling them, till they broke.
On Easter Monday in Preston has always been a big event were the eggs would be taken to Avenham park and rolled down the big green hill. If it was raining then we wern't allowed to eat the eggs untill they had been rolled in the house and broken.
If they were to symbolise the start of spring Tinks we would be eating our yummy choccy in March.
