This is my point, If they only want to know how many people live in this country then why ask some of the questions they will ask, Income for exapmle.

So I dont fill the form in I get fined £1.000, Mr Poland down the street, doesnt even get a form and doesnt matter a dam to him but no fine coming his way.

What gets me is WHY IS IT COMPULSORY.

I understand that the Income question will not be asked in the 2011 Census, they would get too many pork pie answers if any and that would slow the process down.
Mr Poland down the street will have his collar felt if he does not comply with the law.
The Census in the UK has been on the Statute Book for a very long time and is here to stay.
The TV licensing authority has a record of every house in the UK and so has the UK Stats office which hopefully will be used to good effect at Census time.
You ask why is it compulsory........Jaysay answered you first time round...It is the Law of the land.

I do understand that its been around for a very long time, and Im still wondering as to its uses.

Mr Poland getting his collar felt, that would be a first, Mr Poland doesnt exist, or if he does the other 7 occupants dont.

As for Its the Law of the land, I feel this is why it can be challanged, questionned.

Upon reading the 2009 Rehearsal Questionair.

A Question I saw was usual address and SECOND ADDRESS where you might stay more than 30 days a year, I mean why do they need to know this? So If I babysit and my sisters ever friday (52 days a year) I have to tell them

Re: 2011 Census

If you look on that link i gave you before you will see that the rehearsal questionnaire for 2009 is there which will give you some idea of what the questions will be. Also if you read a couple of pages about the census you will see this:

Parliament will make the final decisions on the content and questions to be asked in the 2011 Census. The Census Order which includes details about the topics and questions to be asked will be laid before Parliament in October, debated and approved towards the end of 2009 and then made by the Privy Council in January 2010 The Census questionnaires form part of the Census Regulations which will be approved by Parliament in Spring 2010.

Anyway why are you so bothered about it now .. its 2 years off not 2 weeks or 2 months off.

Re: 2011 Census

So as this is done every 10 years I take it Mr D you ain't filled one out before?? If you have then why whinge about it now??
There are no names on these things, just the address of the household. You fill in the names of those who live there at that time from 1 day old to 121 years old - everybody. You lie you're in trouble.
As has already been said above it is the law and you HAVE to fill it in. Like you said, your details are held by various organisations already so what is the problem??
I would also have presumed the second home question would be for 30 consecutive days??

So they can change it to ask any questions they like, so this rehearsal questionnair is just a this is what it might be.

Why not ask the questions way in advance, why wait till its weeks / Months away, I am also concerend who will be storing this data.

I have not filled one in before that I can remember (maybe I was added on one by my parents, maybe I slipped the net?).

There are No names - There are names??? it wants everybodys name and details who live at the address.

As defended before just because its LAW doesnt mean you cannot challange it.

My problem is Its my choice to give other organisations my details, and not as in this much detail, the problem is I DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE with this census.

The second home question asks, "Do you stay at another address for more than 30 days a year". (not consecutive by the look of it).

In 04/05 there were over 2m students in the UK. That number has risen since then - the majority of those students will live at university for most of the year but go home for xmas/summer. That is a large group of people with two addresses - enough to warrant it being recorded.

Re: 2011 Census

If 8 years ago you were living with your parents then whoever filled it in then will have added you to that. That would probably be why you didnt see it then.

A Possability, but why should they care where you are? what difference does it make?

What if I moved 2 days after completing the census.

Possible.

What I cant understand is why it compulsory. what benefits will we see from completing the census?

What benefit could other companies make from holding all the data from ALL UK citizens (According to "its the law" so everyone has to complete it)

Right, Mr D, you don't want to do it (though you must). Never mind the rights and wrongs of it, you're not happy. The only way for you to look at it, then, is one of pure altruism. Think of your descendants, your great grandchildren perhaps, doing their ancestor research. Your entry will make it so much easier for them.

Your right Im not happy about completing it I dont see why I should if I dont want to.

Surely I should have a choice? (even though I know I dont)

I like the word altruism (I had to google it)

Re: 2011 Census

Its not a matter of where you are but who you are Mr D, they only want to now where you are on one particular day, not over period of time, this gives the government an idea how many people are legally living in this country
