Felling of more trees Rhyddings Park?

I have been told recently that HBC are applying for planning permsion to fell more trees in Rhyddings Park, esp the trees along Fielding Lane. Does anyone know anything about this, if correct why are they being felled? Thanks.

Are HBC still wasting time and money putting in planning applications for tree work when they don't need to?

They do need planning permission if it’s in a Conservation Area or there’s a TPO in place. But, i’m sure the Council would somehow find a way to give itself consent if it’s what they want to do.

Well, Cashy, a five minute search online shows that the whole of Rhyddings Park IS in a Conservation Area and that Policy 9 of the CA Management Plan seeks the retention of all ‘visually important’ trees and shrubs.

One way to check on this rumour, lavenderpixie, would be ask your local councillor to find out, that’s what they are there for, or contact the Council directly. If they have one ask for the Tree Officer or someone in the Conservation/Heritage team.
Trees, like the rest of us, don’t live forever and sometimes have to removed to reduce the risks of falling limbs, etc. But one would like to think that taking out trees in a local Park, if it is actually proposed, would be accompanied by new tree planting.

Trees are often removed in Whtittaker park in Rawtenstall, you'll just walk in one day and pop! another tree has gone.
All that's left is a pile of sawdust.

welcome to my world. tree felling seems a growing pastime around my area too. do not mind if they are dead, decaying or dangerous but its getting stupid now. sorry for a pun but tree felling seems a new growth industry.

The council do give themselves consent because they are the planning authority. If you read the planning regulations there is an exemption for the local authority to not need to give itself planning permission in a conservation area. It is a pointless waste of money going through a process it decides on anyway.

HBC has applied for permission to themselves many times but they do odd things all the time.
