Re: Windows 10

Just had a word with my neighbour who has already spent time on my PC trying to sort it out. She will be popping in later this week to read your advise. Thank you.

Re: Windows 10

Do you get a screen similar to this when you start up your computer, is this where you enter your sons password?

Windows 10

Is your log in at bottom left? If so, click on it and enter your password.

Re: Windows 10

What GPICK is saying Greeny. Did you sign into windows with an email address? I no longer do this myself, but I think most people follow the idea that you have to use one(you dont)

Re: Windows 10

I wasn`t quite thinking that Restless, just think he may have set up his own user account, and default for windows 10 is to ask for password of last account signed into, list of other users is in bottom left corner, just needs clicking on correct user name to sign into that account instead.

Re: Windows 10

Just had another look at the picture of the screen, mine is the same but I do not have the little names in bottom left corner. I am out bowling in a sec so it will be tomorrow before I can catch up on here , but thanks to you all.

Re: Windows 10

I think I would be trying a system restore then, hopefully that will put it back as it was.

Re: Windows 10

A system restore takes you computer back to a previous date.
A time before the changes your son made....which seen to have made your machine haywire.
I am not sure how you do this on a windows 10 operating system.....but I can tell you how it is on Windows 7.
I go into the control panel.....I choose Recovery...this brings up a page which tells about a system restore(it will not change any of your files, documents or pictures) it just removes recently installed programs which might account for your problems).
On this page there is a click box to open the system restore.
I will post a couple od screen shots to help clarify what I mean.

If you cannot do this maybe your neighbour could help you, but I would strongly recommend that you sit and watch what she does.... And perhaps get her to show you.
I can remember a time when I was like you..... But I have learned a lot.....and it does pay to learn a bit about how to do things.
I hope you get sorted out very soon.

Re: Windows 10

On the radio 4 consumer programme (You and Yours) at midday friday, how to avoid windows 10 was discussed.

An application named never 10 was recommended.

I downloaded it and it seems to work.

Re: Windows 10

Margaret I downloaded that GWX Control Panel.......and I have not had to weed out the windows 10 stealth file since I downloaded it. Today I checked for updates and KB 3035583 file is available, but it is only there as an optional rather than a security(must download) file.
And my security system has stopped poking me in the ribs with red notices to tell me that my system is vulnerable.
That will do for me.
Had I not already done this, I probably would have downloaded your recommendation.

Re: Windows 10

Enjoy your windoze7 for four more years. Four more years to enjoy windows 7 before it becomes unwise to continue using as daily driver with its end of support coming around early 2020.

Windows 10 is pretty good IMHO and the changes you will get used to quicker than you realise(i should hope)
