Share your Stanley Memories - Your ASFC Making it Historic

The new OSC exhibition “The club that wouldn’t die”, are asking for willing people to volunteer their Stanley stories to be part of history within the exhibition.

We also need people to come forward and tell us their Stanley stories and share with us their photographs that co-inside those stories if you have them. We want to hear about fans favourite matches and about special events in their life that coincide with matches. We want to hear from fathers who were absent from their children’s births because they HAD to be at a match or about couples who changed the time of their wedding because of a kick off or even met at a match. Fans, whose fathers took them to see their first match when they were very young, or that as a youngster you went with your mates or other family member’s to matches. Funny incidents that have occurred, home or away & during travelling or on the supporters coach or maybe a serious incident that sticks in your mind. Before, half time or after match banter, celebrations, commiserations, the highs, the lows, the frustrations, the elations - home & away – ALL part of the fun of being a Stanley fan.

Whether you’re young or old, long term regular supporter or relatively new to the Stanley fan clan, past or neutral fan - All of these stories and many more, are very important to the project.

If you have a story to share – we’d love to hear about it, there are many ways we can share your moments easily, whichever is preferred;

• Private message contact details for our team to meet with you to record your oral story direct, as some people may not have access to email or for those whom are not on this forum.

The stories we gather, we would ideally like to record these stories as part of the oral histories section of the exhibition & hope many will take part, we may contact you in due course, to arrange a recording of your story or if you do not wish to have it recorded please state at the end of your story or pm me to let us know. If people know of other Stanley fans old or new who have stories they may wish to share, then to get their details to us as above.

It is up to every single Stanley fan to try to help this succeed!

This project really depends on getting everybody's story or stories, and presenting them in the best possible way. The trip to Preston on Sat Oct 20th would be a great chance to have a say, and find out more about the project.

What else are you going to do on a Saturday afternoon, without a match?

Well said Oggy Its a great opportunity for the whole town & district to be part of it & get involved with the project

If you may be surprised u think you dont have a story but even the smallest of detail could be useful or photos, even if you cant help with the memory stories - there are many volunteering & exhibition donation opportunities in order to help the project be successful & also be a part of the workings of the project - no matter how big or small the help or how much or little time u have to offer, or all you have are memorabilia that u are willing to donate/loan to the project - your help will be appreciated & valuable to the exhibition project

If you can offer any of the above help or support please get in touch with myself, Gayle, or any member of the steering group committee that have been posting for volunteer/donation help for the project on other threads in relation.

To get this thread going & interest high, im going to start u off with my memory story[s], so u kind of get the idea & jog your own personal memories along the journey of ASFC, i have many little ones

My 1st ever sort of real interest with Stanley [other than the history side] was listening to their 1st match away to Aldershot just before the conference league back in season 2003/04, think them being promoted from unibond, gave the 1st sense of stanley is back for me as then it reminded me we actually do have a footy team, tho lost - their fighting spirit was obvious there was more to come. Tho that didnt start my visit to the Interlink stadium till nearly year later, as i knew no 'going to the match' people to go with, but then with having Burnley friends i finally went to the interlink to watch the friendly & stanley for the 1st time - it changed the level of my support somewhat from that evening since & regularly tried to make home matches that following season in conference to take what becomes my regular standing spot, with what i call my stanley family awww

The above is my 1st intro & memory, but i cheated a bit cos memory isnt quite as good as it was on this next bit & might help some of you on here too {yes i checked a few out while i was doing mine hehehehe]

What a great day it was today!!!! Fantastic crowd in the town centre & good spirited ..................what was Craney on????? he was ace & great at getting the crowd going - even started the ultra's off [what a refreshing change] pmsl!!!!! Shame about not hearing Coley much im sure he had a gag going but couldnt hear it with the rubbish sound system...was Eric speachless? tho a great sport in showing the trophy to those of us that was round the back luckily didnt drop it lmao

Shame about the ground though - not as packed as i thought it might be rather disappointing - bar shut due to christening even had bouncers at the back door - even Cookie was disappointed about the bar shut he told me lmao. Having said that there was great spirit there & we have a good bunch of fans [nice to talk & laugh with people i haven't met before lol] Craney again on form running about on pitch with the ultra's big flag lmao - i want whatever he was drinking lol. Had a fab memorable day & even got a pic of the kids holding the trophy - very nice of stanley to do that - thanks

So what a day to celebrate a very warm sunny st georges - mind you i think Accy Stanley definately overshone the day .

Gosh even i made it

Was great fun & poinient moment, would of thought there would be a huge proccession but those that turned up & the ultras made quiet streets noisey lol & it was great to see the drum back we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Best moments of league 2 debut 2006-07 highlights;


Blimey where do i start so many

Peel Park march - quite an emotional but worthy & appropiate way to start the season, meant a lot, maccas speech & pink hair day - watch yer coke glass lol a fantastic experience Followed by 1st home match to darlo.

chester - 1st match in the league - yes i was there & my 1st away match became a family day out despite the result - flags en masse

V Nott'gham forest - wasn't there but listening to it on the radio OMG tension & elation best commentry i've heard on the radio heart in my mouth stuff

v Bury away - great fan support mental madness from our drummer & singing madness - great atmostsphere

Torquay home - Got to be the most important & elative win of the season when stanleys future hung on the balance great celebrations in the clubhouse & came home late & quite tipsy

Beating Posh - mainly my buddy supporter gave one posh player some right home truths - literally!!

Grimsby home - cos was sooooo peeved i wasn't there grrr grrr but had great company on here with kiwi & Zero as our group smoking sessions got stanley smoking with goals each time

The final high watching the verdict of the football league hearing at Preston on beeb net.

Most importantly no matter what the result im always at home at the fes with the regular stanley family - whom are all mental but great fun come rain or shine & when away the stanley family come online to get thro the match or results with fun & banter.

Oh to Add we have finally got the F in roof now the big hot topic of debate of getting pished wet thro on many occaisions - hasnt been quite tested how water proof it is but no doubt i'll be there with the rest of the stanley crew

What makes me a stanley fan - ahhh i think i answered that now LOL!

Dont worry, can be hard at 1st as i found but im here to help where ever possible, certainly with some of you with remembering a funny or fan moment like Doug for eg hehehehee except Harwood red im still stuck with the lesleyisms.....helps to look in his forums archives too [theres a clue] that brought back some laughs

some of my favourite memories

1st game

I was about six years old and had just started reading the newspapers. Having also just started collecting football stickers I misread that Stanley were playing away at Watford and begged my dad to take me .... imagine my six year old disgust when Vicarage Road turned out to be the Barton Stadium at Winsford!

A couple of years later we were away at Glossop and having a torrid time .. I asked my dad what their nickname was so that I could shout my support to galvanise the troops ...... COME ON YOU STIIIIFFFFFFS (old speak for corpses or summat)

Number 7 mid eighties was Peter Flynn - used to be me mam and dads Insurance collector, every thursday he'd come round to collect the weeks money (before Direct Debits) and I'd give him hell for hisperformance the previous week.

Every visit to Buxton went through Bakewell - cue forty arses hanging out of the coach window whilst shouting TART ad nauseum

Getting arrested at Buxton (not my fault)

Stanely fans versus the Jukebox away at Colwyn Bay. A few of us went into a bar in the town centre singing, a handful of Reds were already in there and the Landlord had countered the singing by turning the jukebox up, when us few landed the original lot joined in and the jukebox had to be turned up louder, so we give up again. Then another ten or so came through the door and even on full the poor old jukebox just couldn't compete! After leaving that pub to cross the pedestrianised street to the next one we were greeted by the bar staff frantically barricading the door with furniture! We ended up with the local Police commandeering a bus full of pensioners and turfing them out in the street to 'escort' us to the ground! Riot van in front, behind and motorcycle outriders!!!! For us!! Funny

Not paying to get into the Gateshead FA cup match because I had to start work at 4pm, so I watched the first half from one of the trees behind the Accy end.

Not being able to get to the Stalybridge FA Cup match because I was trolley pushing at ASDA, every goal was cheered and I hit at least one car with me stack of trolleys

Subsequently finding out that my old man got nicked for chucking a bin on the pitch at the same game!!!! (tannoy) COULD MRS RUSSELL PLEASE COME TO THE STEWARDS OFFICE

Returning home from Penrith every year through the thick fog on them little winding roads in the dark (top of cliffs)

'retiring' as mascot cos I didn't like Frank O'Kane the then manager

getting a red tracksuit (mid eighties them well smart ones with two stripes running down the arms and legs, only available in blue or red) for christmas and warming up with the subs at Eastwood Hanley

Paul Beck playing his 300th game for Stanley as Goalkeeper away at Chorley. Typical bloody striker! Brian Ross hit a pearler of a fee kick from 35 yard that narrowly went over, Becky claimed the save and pointed to the corner spot!!!!

Darren Quick penalty knocking out some old codger in a penalty shoot out at Ashton

Taking the mickey out of Albert in Tamworth (en route to Atherstone) when we went into the Albert pub on Albert Road singing lets all do the Albert (you had to know why)

Pitch invasion at the same time when Diego Mara-Mellor scored that wonder goal "honest I saw the keeper off his line" it was a cross from from the touchline from about 25 yards out that was more wind assisted than the world farting championships!

Some old timer collaring me at Horwich just after we had done the first ever MAJOR confetti throw. "I 'ope tha's benna pick thad up" yeah yeah mate bring me a brush after t'game. And he did! and I didn't!

Plum liberating the butty van at Howrich of its Brown sauce bottel, then squirting it on the keeper's towel!!!!!!!! that kept him in beer for weeks!

Gazza scoring the third goal at Exeter, that gave me the belief that we might just stand a chacne of winning the Conference

Feeling like Billy-big-boots as I walked into work after the Woking game.

Telling a big money punter that his idea of backing Stanley at 66-1 to win the Conference was a bad one, and not going in that pub since!

Grays away, awesome atmosphere created by so few of us. Everybody ringing in on their mobiles were saying that all you could hear on the Sky commentary was this little band of red and white.

OH ACCRINGTON in the boozer at Exeter. Those that were there will know why

I told this story in an earlier thread, it may be relevent so use it if you want.
I remember going to an away game against Altrincham in the early 70's, I think it was when we were in the Cheshire League but I could be wrong, it was a cup game and we decided at the last minute to go, ie Friday night in the pub. I had an Austin 1100 that was great on the stright road but used to slow down a bit on hills, but it was better then Andy's Anglia that had no reverse.
We decided to meet at the Bridge at 9 and set off stright away, of course after hangovers and everything we suddenly realised that there was 15 of us and they weren't all fitting in my car. So after much discussion Ronnie Hays and Andy (we reminded him he won't have to revese on the motorway) went and got their cars and we set off in convoy for an away day.
We got there and parked in a side street went to the game which was if I remember a cracking match with some really dirty play by Alty, whats new, at the time they were well above us in football terms, how the times have changed.
We decided to go for a pint before we went home so we found a pub on the road out of Alty and parked up, had a couple of pints and some pie and chips we also meet up with some Alty fans who we beat at pool and darts and we had a good night out, we left the pub singing about stanley and got ready to go home.
We went out to the carpark and some git had parked in front of Andys car and written all over the window "Stanley Losers" and "Alty rule" and the killer "Move it". We had parked so he could pull stright out, no reverse.
In a situation like that some drunk always knows the answer and the rest always go along with him. The answer break into the car.
So we decided to break in to the car and move it, this seemed easier then I would have thought and it also made me evalulate which friends I was hanging out with. When we got in to the car and moved it out of the way, it was the decided that we should put it in the back corner of the carpark as far away as we could.
So we head off home and decided to meet at the Little (thief) Chef at Chorley I think its Charnock Richards now, just as we are getting there a cop car is behind me flashing and getting my attention, we pulled in and the cops were being really heavy and accusing us of stealing a car that belong to the deputy mayor of Alty and they going to throw the book at all football holligans in chesire.
We explained about the no reverse and the writting all over the car and we had moved the car to the back of the car park for a laugh, they checked it out and sure enough it all worked out. The cops told us that the DMayor took his bit on the side to that pub and we had really screwed up his night as he had had to call the cops and thought his official car had been nicked. The cops said the DM last words to them were "FU$$**g Accrington Stanley wish they had not got back together"
So the cops sent us off and they said "I don't think you lot will be coming back to Altrincham, we will be in division 4 soon."
When I come home and bump in to any of the guys, the first words are always "****ing Altrincham" "we will be in Division 4 soon".<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
