Re: Youth Cup 23/24

Disappointing result last night but Fylde deserved their win on the simple basis that they scored the only goal.
Stanley had lots of possession and played lots of sideways and backwards passing, but rarely posed a threat in the opponents box, with some wild shooting and misplaced crosses. Playing methodically out from the back and using the keeper (who was very good) it allowed Fylde to get their defence organised, and the forwards ended up being out-numbered. They stifled the threat that Popoola may have had. Tbh, at times it was like watching the first team
Fylde, especially in the second half, played a simpler game, possibly more suited to their age, using the space behind Stanley’s defenders for their players to run onto.
Their was really only one clear chance, and Fylde took it.
Btw, crowd of 770+ went wild as if they’d won the cup.
